AbbyK9

I recently adopted a female purebred Belgian Malinois from the Peninsula SPCA in Newport News, VA. The dog had been seized by Animal Control for cruelty / lack of care, and was awarded to Animal Control in November 2008. She underwent treatment for various medical conditions and was spayed, vaccinated, and put up for adoption in March 2009.

The dog I have is a great dog with plenty of drive. She has been trained in German and knows the obedience basics. It also seems that she was trained in Schutzhund or a similar sport, as she knows the bite sleeve and loves to go at it, and takes German commands to out the sleeve and for the bark and hold. It is obvious that someone has worked with her, but I doubt it was the last owner from whom she was seized.

The shelter and our vet believe that she has had at least one (if not more) litters, due to the size of her nipples. She was listed as "possibly pregnant" when awarded to Animal Control, which turned out to be a false pregnancy. I am curious whether anyone here knows of a breeder in Newport News, or someone who's advertised puppies in the Newport News area. She was seized from a Newport News address, near the waterfront.

Any ideas how I could find out more information about her background? She does not have an ear tattoo, and she does not have a microchip, but has obviously been trained and bred.

Hello Abbyk9…. I am the owner of Cavalier K9 located in Chesapeake, Virginia. I have no info on the female that you adopted from Newport News. I have never sold a Malinois to anyone in Newport News. Thank you for saving her from the SPCA and providing a caring loving new home. Sounds like she has had a tough life….You can contact me for training or any question at 757 574 4049….
