This is my male Malinois. He just turned 1 year old!!  He's fully intact, weighs 68 lbs, 25 1/2 inches at the shoulder. Show lines. Would like critiques. Thank you.

At first i though he was a stealth dog, cause i couldn't see him.  Nice looking pup, still got ro.m to mature, nice medium color. Good solid black mask. Little stretched in the rear on the hocks. But i think you didn't hand stack him, just took a natural photo.
Other than that i don't know crap about mals.
Nice looking chap.

very nice.  Can showline line be trained to become protection dogs?

He isn't stacked in the photo. Just natural stance. Yes, show lines can be protective. However, this is a matter of opinion and many people may think differently. My boy is very protective, especially in the house or when I am out walking him.  He isn't a protection dog though. He's trained for obedience and we're going to start this year for the obedience ring for AKC.

Nice looking Mal.  What kennel?  I'm picking up a show line Mal in a couple of months - out of Alouette.

If you look at the GSD circa 1920-1930 they looked a lot like your dog .. he is going to be a big one when he fills out.  A handsome and athletic dog .. what's not to like??

My Malinois is from Windrush kennel. His sire is an Austrian import.

So a showline Malinois is correct in form or conformation mostly, except for a few that will not fit the standard.  And some individuals in showline Mals are also hard and courageous dogs capable of military and police works, and personal protection.  On the other way around, some working lines malinois will also produce inferior individuals in terms of courage, hardness and working/sporting capabilities.

IMO if I have to choose, I will breed on individual capabilities to maintain the soundness of the breed, both conformation and temperament, regardless of whatever line is he or she, working or showline to fit my needs.

Jemi,
I couldn't agree with you more!! Sometimes I think too much is placed on the show line or working line opinion. Both lines have BEAUTIFUL dogs and in the end, they are all Malinois! My "show line" male is courageous and smart (not to mention beautiful). Both aspects of the breed are amazing and all of them have great charateristics. I think the biggest thing is finding the right dog for the right individual. Thank you for the comment!
