Out of curiosity, where was your brother's pit certified to be a service dog and what else does he do? Retrieve, open doors, turn on/off lights? Where and by whom was he trained? Is identification carried proving the dog is a service animal? I'm extremely curious since I know the service dog trainers where I work would never use a pit.

the dog bit the father also, seriously enough to send him to the hospital, while he was trying to save his child from being killed by his own dog in his own home. No excuses - chained or not, the dog attacked his OWN FAMILY. Tore the throat out of a child he LIVED WITH. Seriously bit his OWN OWNER. No excuses this time.

and another horror story of a Pit attacking a child unprovoked - what is up with these dogs????????? I have always liked Pits - I like their looks, the temperament of the ones I've known, love to watch them work (Schutzhund) - they seem like awesome little power-houses. I've thought I'd like to have one some day. I think I have changed my mind though about this breed of dog.
My own family has had to deal with a Pit Bull attack several years ago. My husband’s granddaughter who was 3 at the time was playing in her own yard with her two older brothers when a neighbor’s (down the road) Pit Bull got out of a screened in porch, went under the fence, entered the yard with the kids and grabbed Summer by the throat and started dragging her down the road. The boys ran in screaming at my step daughter to come as the dog had Summer. Another neighbor who saw what was happening turned her Rottie loose on the Pit Bull, not a smart move, but thankfully the Pit released Summer and went after the Rottie who wasn’t hurt. Summer’s father tracked the dog down and shot it. Of course, absolutely nothing happened to the owner of the dog who was aware of the dog’s vicious history. The home where the dog was being kept was the boyfriend of the owner because she couldn’t deal with the dog. It was very sad and scarey. The dog just missed Summer’s jugular. She has suffered paralysis in her face from the attack.

I have bitten my tongue on this thread so many times, trying to be tactful and polite but just can't anymore so, to everyone else, please bear with a short rant.. And I do realise that I am about to PO a lot of people.
Ms. Kovacs, Do you give a rat's ass about your own brother's safety? You have said yourself that he does not have the strength to control this animal if needed. What is he going to do WHEN (i did not say IF) this dog goes after another dog, your brother tries to correct it and the dog turns on him? You will probably still think that it is real cool, right? By the way, most handicapped people that I know take great offence at being referred to as "crippled." I also wondered where your dog was certified.as a service dog. I can name a dozen web sites where I can buy a service dog vest. Pack leader??? That is so stupid that I don't even know where to begin. Ms. Kovacs, what training credentials do YOU have to be making such a statement? Watched a couple of "Dog Whisperer" episodes maybe?"
I am also reminded of your post "If there was a manual describing ideal Pit Bull temperament." The fact is that there is NO written standard for this type of dog. I do not call them a breed because another fact is that they are not a recognised breed in the US. A pit is simply a dog that looks like one. I call that a mutt.
Do you actually expect anyone to be reassured by your posting that picture? I, for one grew out of the skulls and nihilstic music stage at about the age of 15. It clearly demonstrates a lack of maturity IMO, which is another thing that does not exactly make me feel all warm and fuzzy about this.
No I do most certainly do not own a pit bull. Nor do I have a pet cobra, or a full grown lion. While these might be considered real cool to own, I am a little more resposible than that. As I have also said before, I for one am not going to be real happy when MY dog breed is banned along with these mutts!
Once again I apologise to all about flying off the handle like this. It is not my usual style, but this really ticked me off. Maybe too much caffiene this morning.
