500 hundred dollars worth of guilty!  OMG  Did you just paint a bulls-eye on your tee-shirt?

This rush deal has all the hallmarks of a "PASS" but since you knowingly want to take this gamble, let's hope it pays off for you.

Glad that you got it worked out but you were far more generous than I would have been.  I hope it works out well for you but you are essentially paying these people to rescue their dog.

So, Beetree, you're saying that I should knowingly try to steal a dog from someone by getting it for FREE, when it's a dog I fully intend to breed if all checks out? If I was rescuing her as a pet, then maybe it would be different. I don't need any more pets; if she isn't what she used to be, then she goes to a pet home.

You think $500 is too much to spend to get a good dog out of bad situation regardless of how her hips turn out? I should just leave her there and hope she gets adopted out of the local shelter? A high drive 2yr old that no one will want w/out her papers? I should pass on a nice dog I want just because she got a raw deal in terms of owners?

If I saw a dog on the street being mistreated, and the person doing it wanted $1000 or $10,000 to sell the dog to me, if I had the money, I'd give it to them. If that makes me stupid and paints a bullseye on my chest, so be it. <shrug> That's just me.

No, sorry, not that, just that you said you were doing this because you felt "guilty". I don't think that is the best reason to do something. And then giving it a pricetag on a board such as this is what makes you a bullseye.

You are doing a good thing and I hope you don't become a victim. And since you have made up your mind anyway, I hope you are right and I am all washed up.

(I guess it comes down to how much money I'm OK with throwing away if she doesn't xray clear and I have to find a home for her.) Please understand that I am not trying to start trouble ! Jenn those are your words correct!  let us examine your intentions! Seems you are more concerned with weighing the amount of money THROWN AWAY !compared to what the dog could potentially contribute to your program!  Are you concerned about the dog living or what it brings to your BOTTOM LINE! A well bred animal winds up in a kennel because IT SHEDS TOO MUCH! you ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF MONEY YOU WILL POTENTIALLY THROW AWAY!  And if films are negative have to find it a home! Since from your statement you seem to be an astute capitalist breeder who only cares for your bottom line why not have the owners pay you for relieving them of the burden they are under! Tell the owners to pay you 500.00 dollars to take the dog off  their hands ! Ah shucks the dog will wind up pts anyway because you may not be able to breed the shit out of it!

I believe that is a fair amount for a gamble to adopt most rescues is about 250.00 so that is fair I see your point if it doesn't work out at least she is in a safe place being well taken care of until you can find her a forever home and you have also done a good deed. That's great I hope she does OFA so she can live out the rest of her life with out any future re homing. Good Luck hope everything works out post pics of her when you get her hope she is as gorgeous as Capri but I am sure that will be hard to find!!

Beetree, I think you misunderstood me at first; what I meant by feeling guilty was that I know the dog is worth money. I am not a thief. I do not want to steal a dog from anyone, or steal anything from anyone, for that matter. He could post this dog for sale and get alot more than $500 for her. If I was local, I'd pay more, since I could see her for myself. Problem is I haven't seen her in person, and I'm paying to ship her, also, which is why I wanted to minimize my investment if possible in case she is not what she's reported to be. I'm not BUYING her because I feel guilty; I am buying her because I like that particular cross very much, she's a good age, and her lines and temperament will incorporate well into my program-so long as her hips check out clear and her temperament is good.

Keith, thank you.

Bob, she's DDR lines; her top line is a little different than most of what you find in this country. I currently own her half sister (through the sire) whose temperament I like very much. This bitch's dam is quite a handful, and this cross is typically "a lot of dog" (which is why she's in this predicament in the first place), which I think will cross nicely on Capri offspring, and also a few dogs I'm planning on using for stud in the future. I am really liking the East/West cross I've done so far, and I think this East stuff is going to cross better than most East lines b/c they're a little higher drive in some ways than the typical DDR stuff out there. There is a good bit of hardness on the sire's side, and the dam is very balanced, but very high drive (driven like a West line dog and has exceptional balance ) Both this girl's parents are SchH3, and the dam line has many SchH3 females. I know the breeder very well; the dam is quite a handful, and he is quite adept at handling strong dogs. He says this girl was an absolute top puppy in terms of both temperament and structure, which is why he put me in touch with the owner.

Avery, prettier than Capri is a tough one; I was shocked when I took her out of her kennel at Lufthansa cargo! Thanks for the well wishes.

Raymond, please write more. Schizophrenia has always fascinated me.

Not trying to high jack the thread but why would a breeder put such a dog in a pet home if the lines produced such strong dogs?

Good luck with the dog Jenni.

Jenn I am only concerned when I read people asking for advice on throwing money away on an animal in need! I make a few valid points and get labeled a schoid! seems that you know the line and the breeder! the dog was apparantly sold to people with no intent to train or title! was your intent to purchase the dog to save it or breed it?? Now since my condition intrigues you answer this foolish question please! Why would you solicit advise from people who know less about the dog than you do1 I simply comment on your statement of (throwing away money) and I get labeled schitzoid! Simple fact is your intention was not to save the dog but to get it as cheap as you could then if films were acceptabel breed the animal for what (profit)! If the films were unaceptable you would find the dog ANOTHER HOME and WASH YOUR HANDS OF THE EVENT AND Pat yourself on the back for doing a good deed! Well screw the films why do you need those or even a title on her just breed the bitch like most here do! And when all turned out as a profittless adventure you at least did your good deed in saving a dog ! Wow dear you got all bases covered! Apparantly the owners either have no clue or could have already sold the animal1 Tell me where does the breeder fit into all this???  If this animal is such a prize how come the breeder has not snapped it up??
