Schbabe..I do agree with you and have made this point myself in the past concerning SAR people as it may hinder a search if you don't have the agility and stamni to do a hard search.

If I am wrong, then they are an exception, not the norm.  And even if they did have white collar jobs, i'm sure they moved far more than most do today.  And I've also said that weight, a little too much or not very much does NOT define health.  Health can't be measured by blood pressure either.

That and your activity level as a child and your developmental years usually defines your later years.  I don't know really how to debate with someone that doesn't feel their grandparents lived in a time where they were far more active than Americans are today?I know my grandparents were at least if not more active in their later years(when they were slowing down), than most Americans are every day of their lives.

Uh, DR, calm down. I also agree that, for the most part, people from earlier generations are more active than people are today.

I am not referencing other people, I am addressing my own family and zdog seems to think he knows them better than I do.

DR I also have longevity in my family.  My grandmother lived to be 94.  I think the point that zdog is trying to make is that things were done differently back then.  My grandmother used one of those push lawnmowers with the blades that turned and chopped up the grass.  She didn't have a dryer she had a wringer that you fed each piece of clothing into to wring out the water and then you had to hang the clothes to dry.  Vacuum cleaner? Noooooo it was a sweeper that required alot more work to get the carpets cleaned.  Things were done allot differently back then.  Now kids sit in front of computers and video games and don't have the same work ethic because life is so much easier now.  We are a much more sedentary people these days.  This is a very generalized statement, but true.  I'm glad to have the conveniences we have now.  I'll take fluffy any day of the week!

I know his point but did not like his attitude that he knows my family better than i do. A real know it all it seems...

DesertRangers, you are blessed with good genes and good luck? Sometimes when the topic is close at hand, especially regarding famiy, the intent can be misconstrued. I can agree with zdog, that times have certainly changed, especially regarding the movement, or lack thereof pertaining to the typical American  family, though,  certainly NOT your own!

Also, in everyone's high calorie expendable day that has been described, not one mentions the quality, (0r QUANTITY) of food, the actual calorie intake that goes along with it.

Come on folks, NOT everyone has  a slow metabolism.

The formula is simple, if not simple to implement.

LESS CALORIES + EXERCISE = WEIGHT LOSS

Fluffy is just a nice way to say FAT.

FAT is just that, FAT, great if there is a famine going on. Darfur maybe, not USA

by beetree on 05 August 2007 - 02:08

Oh bother, I meant Ethiopia, not Darfur, that is where there is genocide, not famine that is doing the killing. So sorry.

I come from "lucky" genes too. All of my family live to over 80 usually 89 is the lucky number. All pretty healthy through life and naturally "skinny". You can see the 5th generation of stick legs in my daughter. Comes from my grandfathers mother on my mothers side. My nickname in high school was Anex, short for Anorexic. LOL I've gained 40lbs since those days and must say, I'm still thinner than most woman my age. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
