Why do you have rules about german shepherds on your gaming board?    Louise, I agree, those who want the "hall monitor" jobs are the ones who scare me the most!

Louise , Yes I thought of that. That is why the number that triggers an alert would only be known to the forum owner and that is the reason for a human to actually make the decision to edit or delete. Once done that individual post or thread could be locked - I do know the code is available for doing that.  The reality is what one man can design another can find a way around but the thing is you can add factors that make it not worth their time especially if they don't know what those factors are. You also add in your TOS a notice that any such bogus attempts would be considered hacking and subject to prosecution.  Like I said a dream but I think it's a nice one someplace between the free for all brawl and the hitler boots of moderation.  Beth

Beth, of all the ideas I have heard, I  like yours the best.  Especially if Oli would be able to see someone was abusing the system by trying to "vote" more than once.   If I am understanding you correctly,  there wouldn't be any mods, but people could "vote" when they read something they find particularly awful (for whatever reason), then Oli would be notified that a lot of different people were objecting to a particular thread, at which point he could decide to do nothing, lock it, or take whatever action he felt was warranted.  Plus, he wouldn't have to waste his time telling us why he did what he did either.  I do think the  decision should be left up to Oli, though.

I would really like it if there was some way to stop people from using multiple identities too.  I think a lot of people are guilty of that here.

I am another person who would be more than willing to pay an annual  fee to use this message board.

One thing I have to say in defense of  Molly not that she need it but she is outspoken and honest about her feelings toward  the people there going on her nerves.  Or questions of  her abilities or her intelligents.  I always know where I stand with her we disagree a lot but respect each other.  We should be able to express our dislikes like it or not but keep it civil.  We do know each other for a long time thru the web.    See you on side

Since I hope Oli will check back on this thread, here is another wish of mine. When we have a particularly good thread on a topic that repeatedly comes up with newbies ex ie. my dog has HD - what do I do, can I work him etc etc. is there a way to lock the thread and turn it into an article that could then go under a FAQ section for newbies to the board. Even better if we could copy and paste the good replies and eliminate the troll ones.  Like I said - wishful thinking. But we see the same questions over and over and often do not have the time to type the same thing for the 53rd time plus as we lose old time experience members so do we lose a lot of voices of wisdom and this would be a way of holding onto some of those voices. Are archives of the board available on any server to allow us to mine them or are they just gone forever?

Thank you OLI!

For creating this GERMAN SHEPHERD PEDIGREE DATABASE!

I agree with EVERYONE! If there are people out there trying to ruin this for all of us, then whoever is trying, should banned and blocked.

You can ban an IP address but IP addresses change. You can ban an email but new email addresses can be obtained.

All of these complicated ideas when the simplest idea is just to have a moderator or two or three.

BTW, I vote for Bob too.

One more point to consider is that Oli has now added tons of other breeds to the site

( http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/dogs/switch_breed.html ) and each breed appears to have it's own seperate forum section!!!

What an undertaking! This looks like more than a full time job.

Sue, I figured I would take the 45 seconds and remove the gaming references and put them in context of the medium we are discussing.  After enjoying the board for the last year, I figured it was the least I could do.

Just trying to help...

I think it is better to over moderate than under moderate. In the last year, I have seen this board take nasty turns where I had to get away for a while. I rarely post, but often read.

Funny thing is this is the most active GSD forum I know of, so obviously something is being done right.  I will agree the system is not perfect, nothing is.  I don't think adding moderators will improve the quality of this message board.  I do think TIG is on to something that would satisfy everyone and would be fair.
