Sook- That last was the most gracious statement I has seen you post. Welcome to the civilized world. Relax, look around, enjoy the polite climate... you might like it here. ;) BTW: Who ARE you, anyway, as in a fore and last name, geographic location, experience, successes? The German dog sport is multi-faceted. I enjoy all aspects, including the show ring, though admittedly more passionate about the schutzhund end of the spectrum. I read here to learn from the rest. I post here not for selfish reasons, but to try to share what I know, successes and failures, to nurture novices and try to save others some of the disappointments have experienced. I try to keep my posts positive, and to avoid interpersonal grudge-matches as much as possible, disappearing from a thread when it gets ugly, reappearing only if it turns back towards useful communication. Why do YOU post here? SS

DRFNO you can take anything out of context reconstruct it and have it come out how you want. Aren't you the one that said you don't believe in the use of crates yet in another post you claim to own three. What are they end tables?

Before this argument goes on, I'd like to ask what people are thinking of in terms of 'quality dog'. This being a German Shepherd board, I'm more inclined to think of a 'good' shepherd than anything else, and even then, you're going to get debates on that alone...

Not saying it's not possible to get a good companion at the pound BUT in the majority of cases the dogs are there because they have issues-let me rephrase that; their previous owner had issues-being LAZY to obedience train or housebreak. One goes to the pound when wanting a pet because they either a. don't have $500-$1,000 to dish out on a papered dog or b. can't begin to justify why anyone would or does pay that much for one. Most people who drop off their dogs at the pound aren't completely honest with the reason they are giving them up. Hence, it passes on the problem to the next uneducated person who sees this cute dog waggin his tail to go home. You get him home and he craps all over your house, eats the couch, wants to chase cars and all the other nutso things untrained dogs do. I can almost bet not one persons dog from this website would EVER wind up in the pound. Hence someone looking for a dog let's say like mine aint ever in a million years gonna find it in the pound. No way! Had a guy working in my home last week comment on how pretty my dog was, couldn't believe how obedient he was, then asked "what's a dog like that cost?" when I told him he about swallowed his tongue and told me I was crazy to spend that much on a dog when I could get one at the pound. I laughed hysterically; imagine that. See people, why are we spending big $$ on our dogs we can just stroll down to the local pound and get ourselves one. lol Now why didn't I think of that before?? lol Bottom line is if you want a dog to have specific traits then it's imperative you know where they came from other wise it's a roll of the dice. One of our police dept. got their k9 Rottie from the pound- he looks tough walking down the road but in all actuality I'm told he's far from a true police dog. You get what you pay for.

No spook: they are what dogs were sent to me in. I have stated they are okay (and necessary) for shipping and short term things, like going to the vet or wheatever. For you to make the claim that someone else takes things out of context, reconstruct them, and use them against somebody, well, that is like the pot calling the kettle black. I used EXACT quotes from you, no reconstruction done or necessary. Lose like a gentleman, dude. Quit beating this dead horse. Lets argue about something you may have knowledge about. How about rescue kitties :)

Agar: Yes, you generally get what you pay for, except many of us don't get what we pay for (if you have not been screwed by an auto mechanic, you are one lucky man). The same goes for rescue or shelter dogs, you generally get what you would expect. My point from the beginning, and what actually started this thread, is that a resuce dog can be found quite easily, that would make a fine, no, let me change that, an outstanding family pet. Also, every once in a while, a rescue dog can be found that is as good as my imported GSD or your imported GSD. MY vet wrote a book called "No Dogs in Heaven", his name is Dr. Robert Sharpe in Ohio. I read his book and one of his stories is about a person who owned three high quality Dobermanns. They were the wifes dogs and the husband did not want them after she died, because he was not a dog person and because everytime he looked at them he started crying about his wife, so he took them to the local shelter. The vet found out about it after it was too late and the dogs had been grabbed by "someone", presumbly very fast. His book is a bunch of true stories from his many years as a semi-country veterinarian. We are friends and I actually got to read the draft before it was published. I have an inscribed copy of the book on my shelf and I recommend it for some very funny stories with a couple of sad stories. One story about a Dobermann owner who lost his wife and their Doby is truely religiously inspiring. These are his stories and can be read in his book. It is just one example of how strange things can happen. Strange things happen all of the time, all over the world. Will everyone concede me this point so we can move onto something else? Throw me a bone peoples :)
