We keep getting sightings but always are too far behind him,  We live 45 minutes from where Pendleton is...  I'm so tired,  we went this morning and traveled the length of the levy once again,  all the way down and all the way back again...  I'm getting exhausted and VERY Frustrated !!!!

I had a male that was being transported to someone else and he got loose on her.  I had to drive 3 hrs to attempt to find him.  Could see him from time to time, people had reported sightings of him.  He wouldn't come to anyone.  I ended up putting raw chicken in a crate in the back of my van and left the hatch open all night.  In the morning I go out to look one more time, go to close the hatch and he was in the crate in the van.  He growled at me until he realized it was me and then he was jumping for joy.  so maybe put his crate with meat in it overnight in the place where he's been spotted the most?  Worked for me thankfully, but I do know how frustrating it can be, so keep your chin up!

vomlandholz,  I have not yet tried that approach,  However that's a really good idea,  Maybe I can cover one end of the levy and Rylee can cover the other end tonite,  Maybe we could get lucky....  I like the Idea !!!!

I just remembered a story a friend told me about a GSD who broke out of a kennel while being boarded. When the owner returned, the guy who ran the kennel asked for an item with her scent on it. She gave him a scarf, and he placed it in an area where the dog had been sighted.

The next morning, there he was, lying beside the scarf!

Echo ,  I'm sorry to hear about Dago. I know you said that you have called all theauthorities but has anyone actually gone and walked the shelters. In my county they could be looking right at your dog and they will tell you that there is no dog here that fits that description. One shelter had a "problem" where purebreds especially GSDs were hawked out the back door.

I know you and your husband are at  your end point in terms of energy but you can recruit family, friends and neighbors for shelter patrol. Any GSD they see have them demand a scan for the microchip. Have them take their cell phone cameras or a digital camera with them ( as well as flyers - one for each kennel building. Check EVERY Day - maybe 4H groups or FFA would be willing to help.

Don't forget to get them to call/check the rescue groups. Those ome from an animal rights perspective vs animal welfare sometimes do NOT try to find the owner.

See if you can get local newspapers to do a story  or better the TV station.

Hope some of this helps. Here's praying he finds his way back.

Went back to the Levy yesterday around 6:30 and dropped a bunch of Lamb in visible areas, Walked the Levy once again from one end to the other and  We then traveled back and forth to those areas in 2 different vehicles but nothing,  at 3:00am we finally came home,

I'm WORRIED...  I am out of commission I have open sores on both of my feet now,  and I'm barely able to walk around the house much less get on that Levy again. We have spent over 600.00 at the printers, and have hung over 3,000.00 flyers.  I am thinking of buying a 4wheeler to do some of this running around on.

We put some more meat out tonite,  by a bridge and guess we'll just see what happens now...  will be back out there in the am again...

Echo I know how frustrating it is, don't give up! It sounds like you have an area where Dago is hanging around. Keep your chin up, you are doing all you can. I am sure you will find him!

Did Dago like to ride in the car?  The crate idea is good if he likes the crate - but if he likes to ride in the car, could you bring an extra vehicle (yours so your scent is in it) and leave it there with the door open?  Maybe he would get in and hang out.  I think my dogs would do that if given the opportunity -

Excellent idea, eichenluft!!

My first GSD belonged to an eldery farmer whose farm was next door to my uncle's The first time I took her back to my uncle's place, she panicked and took off when I decided to go to the barn. My aunt told me it looked like she was headed back to her old home.

I ran back to their house, and looked across the fields. No dog. Looked down the road, same result. Finally, I decided I'd better get in my car and drive over to her old home.

I opened the door, and there she was curled up in the back seat! She had jumped in through the open window.

I knew at that point, she was now MY dog!

I like the car idea also., You just have to be careful to disengage the lights or the battery will go dead.
