I had a shepherd years ago that would jump through windows, being locked in the house can cause more problems. Can't believe this is being mentioned again...

What about Max. What if some crim gave your address or a druggie giving the LE your address as the dealer, all to get off and it has been done before. Then they have a warrent. They come over your back fence at the same time they kick you door in. Think your dog will understand, they got it wrong. Think the LE have time to explain. It has happened.

What if your injuried, knocked out fallen off a laddar in your back yard, do you think they will leave you there because they can't get past your dog, can't get animal control.

Many dogs have been killed trying to save their famaily from a threat that shouldn't have been there, sadly alot from police doing their jobs. It's not their fault they have such a hard job, it's not their fault criminals have become crazier. Our dogs will alway suffer. Knowing you LE can help, having something put on their computer so they know when they look up your address. Even a back up phone number to someone else that can handle your dogs. I live in a country town which helps.

Lets not forget the unjust that was done to MAX.

spook I have heard both sides of the story. God knows both sides have been beat to death. I just think this PO could have done things alot different. I am only 5'2" about 130#. If I walked into a yard with a gun and a dog was loose and came at me I would try to back out, at least do something different than was done. Maybe shoot a round into the ground...find something to protect myself. I have only once had a dog come at me and mean business. All I had was a 5 gallon white plastic bucket to get some cucumbers at some friends house. I used it to protect myself by blocking the dog, coincidently it was a black GSD. Most untrained dogs will not engage anyway. They are alot of bluff. I was not there nor was  anyone else but Max and Mr. Long. So no I guess I don't know the whole scenerio but I have made a judgement/opinion based on what I have heard. It never shoulda happened the way it did....

"Stand for something or you will fall for anything", is a old saying that can apply to some here.  If you can not make up your mind about something unless you have proof positive, then you are no good to any situation requiring decisions, such as jury duty or being a police officer.  Some always say that "if you were not there, then you really don't know what happened".  Well, I hope you don't find your wife coming out of a closet, wiping her lips with her blouse sleeve, followed by another man buckling up his trousers.  Because you will probably tell the other guests at your house that, "hey, we can't jump to assumptions here folks".  Then you can just stick your hear in the sand and ignore the closet incident.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that a police officer walked into a yard, looking for a person wanted on a relatively minor warrant, see or hear a GSD, then shoot said dog when it barked, lunged, nipped, or "threatened" him.  The key hear is that the officer shot the dog 6 or maybe even seven times, with most or all of these shots actually striking the dog.  Okay, show me the dog you have that can take six or seven (hell, even three) bullets to it's body, and it keeps coming.  Especially a family pet dog that was not trained to ignore gun fire (if it is possible to teach a dog to ignore bullets entering it's face, neck and body).  Show me that dog and I'll buy it from you at your price.  Give me a freakin break, you doubters.

Yea, you can say that someone deserves his day in court.  Well, O.J. Simpson had his day in court, and we know how well that one turned out.  Anyone can make the argument that you and I don't know all the facts.  Well, no jury or investigating authority EVER knows all the facts.  They know what they know and that is it.  We know what we know and that is it.  If the officer and his backers don't want us to jump to conclusions about what happened, and he feels that he did nothing wrong, then "step up" and tell us what happened.  If not, then "stay seated" and accept our condemnation.  We are not sending the officer to jail or even taking money out of his pocket.  We are just judging his actions from what we know.  What else can we do?  Stick our heads in the sand and ignore it?

As I have stated before, I have conducted investigations of police actions many, many times, and I know a snow job when I see it.  Your wife was not just finishing a pepsi in the closet.  But believe what you want, and please invite me to your next house party.

I may come to a different conclusion concerning this incident, if I am given different or additional information, however, I have come to the conclusions I have from what I know and I can do no more than that.  Neither can a Judge or a Jury.

Trailrider, it sounds as if you are claiming to have access to the officer's statement or the depatrtment's investigation. "spook I have heard both sides of the story" Please produce it or let us know where we may read an official copy. Thank you.

spook "spook I have heard both sides of the story. God knows both sides have been beat to death." I thought from that it would be taken from the threads here on the PDB. Of course I don't have access to the departments investigation. How would I get that? I have read the newspaper articles , read the threads, and formed an opinion. Just like you, only yours is different than mine based on the same things.... or do you have access to the investigation or video of what happened? Or are you just basing your opinion on the same info as me?

Here is one link:  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/101975.html

However; if you go up to Search messageboard" and enter MAX, you will find a ton of threads about this incident.  In the threads you will find a link to the original story in the paper.
