Do Right, I agree with you!

But, REALLY, does NO ONE here think that the Mattia's were in the wrong also, costing the dog his life?  Why does everyone want to side step this simple FACT?  And we know it as fact as you can see the tie out and the CHOKE collar in the pictures!  Does anyone not see that if this dog had been in the house (in a crate even if he isn't good in the house) or in a kennel that in all probability Max would still be around?  Yes we all make mistakes and I have made my fair share, but come on people, if the sign says the bridge is out do you think you would want to continue down that road?

Out of all involved in this thread, would you sell a dog to someone who you might think/know they were going to let the dog live the way Max did?  At the end of a tie out, on a choke collar and at a house reported to be unoccupied?  NO WAY IN HELL I WOULD ALLOW IT!!!

Here is the link to the story for the person that requested it:   Welcome to St. Mary's Today Online Edition!

Trailrider, in other words you're accepting hearsay and speculation as fact. Unless you have read the officer's statement or the Department's investigation you have not heard both sides. Now I understand your definition of justice. It's as weak as most of these other peoples. Hope you're never judged by your own standards.

spook I am accepting the heresay and speculation from "both" sides. There is the Mattia's side and the PO side. Have you talked to the Mattia's at all to say they are wrong, or that they kept their dog tied 24/7, or what the situation happened to be that day? If not then you are doing the same thing you that you claim I am doing. The only issue I have with the LEO is he had the opportunity to leave, he didn't have to confront Max, whether Max was tied or loose. I am sure he could have gotten to his car w/o having to shoot the dog 7 times. C'mon... what makes what he did OK in your eyes?

spook,  It sounds as though you have the "inside edition scoop"  Do tell what "EVIDENCE" do you base your opinion on ??

I believe there are many that do not think having a dog tied out is an excuse to shoot the dog. Whether a dog should be tied out is not even an issue. It was their property and the force used was excessive considering the officer had the option to say outside the dogs reach. If anything the dog being tied out looks even worse for the officer as he could easily see how far the dog could reach by the ring on the ground. All he had to do was say to himself. Dog may bite. I see dog, I see chain on dog. I see ring on ground where dog can go. If I stay outside ring, dog cannot bite me. Duh.

DoRight,  Very Well Articulated,  Thank You for a reasonable post !!

vickie,  I don't think anyone has let slide the fact the dog was on a tie,  However millions of people tie they're dogs every day,  and they're dogs are not shot for the officers MISTAKE of not verifying  the address !!

Trailrider,  Spook was there or he has an "Official" report,  otherwise he would NOT spout off like that,  I just want him to share it with the rest of us so we can all be so enlightened as he and not have to give our speculated opinions !!

LOL Echo! Truth be it, if I did have the PO's statement and the official report I would still be inclined to think he was wrong because their were no witnesses (but Max) as to what actually happened.

BTW, did you find your dog, Dago???

by EchoMeadows on 15 July 2007 - 02:07

Trailrider,  What are you thinking ??   There is the LE as a witness and just because there was no bite does not mean it did not miraculously heal in 10 minutes...  That is pure speculation though,  I mean afterall he said there was a BITE !!!  hell he said full on ATTACK !!  so must have been some good workings there from our good Lord to heal this poor man before the ambulance could arrive,  I don't know who did the repairs on the britches,  But man that's some FAST stitchen !!

and No not yet,  Still looking,  Every day !!  Sometimes in the evenings sometimes in the early AM's.  Still getting calls though, so that is good.
