Don Corleone

I don't know what you want me to respond to.  If you are looking for an arguement, that would be very ironic.  I am simply conversing amoungst fellow GSD owners and fanciers.

I guess my point was to go to the club, sit around and listen, participate and have fun.  Don't expect to like everone or everyone to like you.  It is a club, not a paid group of people to like you.

Please take the defensiveness out of this very good and productive post.

I am new to my area.  I moved here 2 years ago.  My dogs are my everything.  Each and every one of them are different.  I am a dogaholic and love talking about dogs.  I like people that have the same interest.  I don't care what I do with them, as long as I do something.  They are for me also social interaction.  I am very proud of them and I want to show them off.

I have discovered that in my area, there is a TREMENDOUS need for starting young dogs off.  The DFW area is huge and there are training clubs. I was on a mission to find the GSD people out there.  Well, in order to meet people, I brought my HGH dog to an AKC herding instinct test.  I think this was like putting a kernel under the bed of a sleeping princess.  As a result I met so many people, who had heared of my dog, had seen my dog.  Friendships came about, and a real need, for interaction and activity seems to have come to the forefront.

I am stepping out in territory I have never dared to go before.  I am starting training toward the BH in accordance with the Augsburg Model and under the umbrella of our "little" club. I am very scared, but I figure with all of my background after watching so much and being under the wing of Joanne Fleming, I cannot hurt any dog at least to get them started.  The need is there, I believe in every region.  But I have puppies coming to me shortly and I want to give them also the best start for their future.  I need people.  I need them to walk behind me on a track, I need them as distraction, I need other dogs around.  Working in a vacuum just does not work.  You need people and other dogs, to put on the foundation for their future.  JMHO.

Did you not read my original response to you? I was not kicked out of a club based on a dog. I have owned dogs from Tell V Daelenburghutte (sp), Pirol van't Enclavehof, Endy v Svenshome, and Karthago lines, so dogs weren't the problem.

Your analogy only works with respect to inanimate (you know non-living) objects and processes. I can appreciate the position, but seriously, give of yourself and you can never go wrong. No matter how many times you get burned. Give first, always. The rewards, as it was in my case with my wife, are worth it!

We can agree to disagree, no hard feelings. I apologize if I offended you and/or mis-judged you before. It was wrong of me to do and I appreciate you calling me on it. I do not know you personally, and for me to make snap judgements is off the mark. Thank you for your opinions, I respect them. Good luck with your club and future trials.

Flip: Thanks for your thread: and you express a lot of things I and my friend, who is in a club in Houston area, at  this time,., have felt and gone thru like sunshine, for many  years.   I recently drove 100 miles to meet three people to visit schutz club in Dallas area, and the three people I was meeting , have owned and handled by one being wife of a form K-9 officer, now a detective on force in area, were all afraid to go to this club. They had been to other clubs and had received the exact treatment you described..I went enthusiastic as I know two people in that club.

Before two hours came to an end, they were ready to go home, one calling husband and telling, you were right, they treated me just like you said they would...End of evening, resulted in those three people calling a couple in Corsicana Texas who have a german shepherd kennel and train privately and professionally, for what ever choice you need/    I  and Jeri, had the same experiences for years...in the Houston Area.

The head of her club, now, use to be in one of those clubs, and she now has a very small , lover of the breed dedicated people, that like each other and work together,. She is not a social butterfly,  in fact, she is very unsocialable, but wants the goal of the club to go far.

What dog out of Pirol vant'd Enclavehof did you own? male or female and who was the dam he was bred to for yours?

The reason for that question, is , I have one also.

Schuzthund became a novelty in the last 5 years when everyone and his neighbor wanted to breed GSD's after they purchased a nice puppy. Like anything else, the "fad" people shall too pass and the people who have it in their blood will still be around, mostly unheard of, doing what they like. This will also cut back on the over production of the breed itself. People will naturally become uniterested as time goes on.

Funkman, I disagree with you.  I was living in the US when SchH started off and that was in the 1980's with Gottfried in FL.  In the early 90's the first successes were seen from the USA, with Jackie Reinhart and others.  When you meet Jackie, I cannot think of a more gracious sportwoman.  No blabbermouth spouting theories.  A very good dog handler in her own right matched up to a super dog.  But call her and she will get you in with everyone she knows.  The beginning of this sport had some tremendous people in it.  I am one of the fortunate people that called her when I was in Orlando.  I had a 10 year old dog out of her male Nikko.  Family.

P.S. I think I as a Geman am the great importer of American Dogs to Germany.  LOL.  Alexis von der Reinhart, on this database, I adopted when she was 8 years of age and had the pleasure of accompanying this animal during the las quarter of her life.  "Alex" got me hooked on this breed.  She alsow was the bridge to many contacts I am fortunate to have gained over the years in the "Sport" of SchH.
