Yellow rose, I had the sister to Dena vom jabarhaus (who is on this site) for a time and bred her son, Coty to my female from Tell Dalenberghutte (sp) to get most of my pups that were working. Dee (the sister I had) was a wonderful female with lots of ball drive and the most realistic bite work of any female I have known. We did hidden sleeve, vehicle attacks with her, it was a blast! Coty was an Endy v. Svenshome dog, so he had both Pirol, Endy and Tell in him!

Flip, Well said!  Although I seriously doubt Shutzhund will ever die I think many will agree with you (even the one's who don't want to admitt it) that for years and years and years this is just how the sport has been when it comes to clubs.  Going back over 15 years ago my mother in law bred GSD's even donated a few of her dogs to PD's, she was a very good trainer/handler who ate, slept and shit DOGS! lol  She dabbled with a Sch club or two but quickly had a bad taste left in her mouth because of all the politics and bashings so she got completely away from the sport itself and opened her own facility doing what she loved without all the pettiness.  When she and my father in law found out I imported my first GSD they were extatic for us and when I mentioned my interest in doing SCH my father in law told me "if it's still anything like it was 20 years ago you're gonna be very disapointed".

I can't say that was the case entirely BUT I still don't know if it's gonna be my cup of tea.  I enjoy working with my dog, I realize I'm new, have much to learn, require a lot of patience to overcome some minor things in order for my dog and I to be a real "team" in all 3 phases but I don't necessarily need a club to do these things with him.  I train one on one with someone and this seems to work better for me for right now.  I get what I need, I'm learning at my own pace with my dog and I don't have to worry about being the talk of the day when I leave.  I can't speak for ALL clubs....I've been to a handful; some better than others and some I'd never ever step foot at again even if they begged me to come back.  Most are "clickish" and yes this makes a new person very uncomfortable of course they aren't gonna want to come back.  They feel like they aren't "good enough" or their dog isn't the right caliber to fit in.  IMO this is not what clubs are designed to be like.  If you belong to a gun club or a sportsmans club it's a group of people who share an interest and they are all walks of life, on all levels from novice to advanced and you know something....they actually "help" each other- go figure! lol  They could care less if someone is less qualified, has mediocre equipment, they try to educate and make their club stronger even if some of the members are weaker.  That's what it's all intended to be about.

For me personally I wanted it to be "fun" regardless of how good or bad I was gonna be at it.  I had the determination because that's just how I am as a person- when I set my mind to learn something I do put in my all.  But too many clubs train on a more "serious" level and that's just not where I'm going with it.  When you gotta kiss ass to gain exceptance or you feel you have to "prove yourself" in order to be a part of something it tends to take all the fun out; hence you lose interest, especially if you're like me and not in the ass kissin' business. lol

One more thing...how many times have you heard people say "we like the dog but not the handler" or "we like the handler but they got a weak ass dog"??  So in other words if you are not the "model" handler, all around person with a kick ass dog then you're not "worthy".  That's my translation....and it's a bunch of BS if you ask me.  Not everyone is interested in competing in the regionals, nationals or worlds.  Some folks just want a place to have their dog work, socialze with good people who share a common interest once a week. I don't see anything wrong with that.  Don't get me wrong I met a few good people along the way who've taught me many things but I've also met my share of some interesting characters that left me just shakin my head. lol

Agar Excellent Post !!!

I will say we are very lucky,  Our training directors have had they're fun in years Prev.  been to the BIG shows.  Been to Germany, Been to Olympics, yada yada yada,  So they are willing NOW to help us Newbies Learn and have fun,  Also they put alot of emphasis on teaching us "How To"   which is really good,  afterall they won't be around forever to take the beating of a hitting dog,  So they are willing to pass it along,  And our Club is ALOT of FUN !!!   Always willing to share ideas,  (no matter how dumb they seem) Skills, Techniques, Tricks, and whatever else you can think of.  It's really NICE.

I don't let anyone mess with my dogs other than people that I trust that are not out to kill them.  I am so pissed off about an experience I had with my young male at the time.  He lived through it, but not because I was wise, buit because he had good genetics.  I will not trust just anyone with my dogs. No training is better than bad training is the motto I live by.  It is just not worth it to me.  I will protect my dogs come hell or high water.  It kills me that I let one down.  They say you make all your mistakes on you first dog. . . poor baby learned to fight for his life and I did not know better. to protect him.

The same dog by the way is a "V" in protection today.  He is a showline dog so if anyone ever queries if they have it, please contact me.

Your welcome everyone!  I've wanted to get that off my chest for a long time but never found the right opportunity and really wasn't up for a scuffle around the yard but I figured tonight I was just gonna put it out there and whoever didn't like it.....probably got upset cause I was right! lol

Get a Real Dog- I've gotten as close to your neighboring state of Oregon several times.  I have a best friend out there I visit once a year.  Who knows maybe next time I'm out that way I'll take you up on your invitation.  I always did like California.

I've already driven 5 hours one way to a club....sometimes my husband and I just like to get away and it's something we both enjoy (the dogs) so it gives us a chance to take a road trip, meet new people, see different dogs and how they train and we get to see different places too.  What else is there really to do when you start getting older and have kids that take up much of your time???  We're kinda past the "bar scene". lol
