I think everyone understood your "Huh???"

by txuliz197 on 05 August 2007 - 20:08

from The German Shepherd Dog in Word and Picture, by Max von Stephanitz, the founder of the breed,
rendered into “herding English jargon” and illustrated with photos of working shepherd dogs in California

On Breed Characteristics

The shepherd dog is a working dog; he was born so, and only as such can he remain a “shepherd dog;” the dog which we value and love. His abundance of joy in life must be used and he must be allowed to work even when kept by an amateur. There is no doubt that the genuine and noblest vocation for the shepherd dog is tending flocks...

I hate to agree with all the blunt people on this board, but what is the confusion?  We all know what the GSD was created for and what it has become.  Why do you think there is so much animosity between the two sides.  Seabuscuit is dead!!!!!!  Stop beating the damn horse!

Who here is "taking all credit that their dog can bite" or "the whim of the handler or owner who knows nothing but bark about his accomplishment on this dog"?    I don't think it's a language issue, it seems more like this kind of remark comes out of left field.  If you are saying people shouldn't overly brag on their dogs I agree, but only to the extent they don't act like they own Tony the Wonder Pony, but I don't see anyone doing that on this thread.

QUOTE:

Kudos to those who own GSDs for the first time and BLOAT taking all credit that their dog can bite... (the dog definitely can bite because he was bred to be a dog and not a couch potato) The dog is better than his master because he knows when there is aggression or threat but not because it is the whim of the handler or owner who knows nothing but bark about his accomplishment on this dog which was actually doing what it was designed to do...

All bullshit aside, I am not sure who or what you are responding to. For example, here in the first sentence you say " Kudos to those who own GSDs for the first time and BLOAT taking all credit that their dog can bite..."

What do you mean "bloat"???AND, how do I get these cool letters instead of the little ones?? : )

Help out the confused.

Bloat is what happens when a dog eats too much dry dogfud then drinks plenty of water ,  or when he eats too much air while bolting on his food, and then exercise or barks his head out, or rolls over... That also happens to humans if they are too preoccupied with their temporary accomplishments and lose track of what he is truly doing... sorry wrong thread...

I THOUGHT PEOPLE  GLOATED OVER THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS   NOT BLOATED...SORRY, maybe I have a language barrier here...

IMO if you take the time and research you will find many gsd breeders are now realizing the importance of keeping the working abilities and the interent is full of breeders who at least appear to be breeding for working abilities. I see as many ads on this website for working lines as i see for show lines. I agree that alot of the showlines are now way off the mark by losing working abilities and even now you can see many roached back dogs for sale. It pains me to even look at some of them that are so called top VA lines. Maybe I am off the mark but i hope i am correct and we will continue to see more and more breeders get back to the gsd standard in all aspects. Nothing wrong with a beautiful dog that will work.
