This is a link to the safety council of Canada. http://www.safety-council.org/info/child/dogs.html

Canada has no national data on canine population, dog-related deaths and injuries, or which breeds cause the most harmCanada has no national data on canine population, dog-related deaths and injuries, or which breeds cause the most harm

On there website the give this link http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/dogbreeds.pdf which never says American Pit Bull Terrier just Pit Bull type. Think of all the breeds that fall into that look of dog......

This site http://www.nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/studies.asp is more concerned with why dogs attack and not the breed of the dog. they are also more up to date.

Just so we are clear the only people that I am nasty to are ones that are nasty to me.

The most horrifying example of the lack of breed predictability is the October 2000 death of a 6-week-old baby, which was killed by her family's Pomeranian dog. The average weight of a Pomeranian is about 4 pounds, and they are not thought of as a dangerous breed. Note, however, that they were bred to be watchdogs! The baby's uncle left the infant and the dog on a bed while the uncle prepared her bottle in the kitchen. Upon his return, the dog was mauling the baby, who died shortly afterwards. ("Baby Girl Killed by Family Dog," Los Angeles Times, Monday, October 9, 2000, Home Edition, Metro Section, Page B-5.)

In Canine homicides and the dog bite epidemic: do not confuse them, it has been pointed out that the dog bite epidemic as a whole involves all dogs and all dog owners, not just the breeds most likely to kill.

In all fairness, therefore, it must be noted that:

  • Any dog, treated harshly or trained to attack, may bite a person. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog. The owner or handler most often is responsible for making a dog into something dangerous.
  • An irresponsible owner or dog handler might create a situation that places another person in danger by a dog, without the dog itself being dangerous, as in the case of the Pomeranian that killed the infant (see above).
  • Any individual dog may be a good, loving pet, even though its breed is considered to be potentially dangerous. A responsible owner can win the love and respect of a dog, no matter its breed. One cannot look at an individual dog, recognize its breed, and then state whether or not it is going to attack

Angela,

You are looking at the wrong report, your search engine may be different but this is the address I'm talking about CLEARY

Sorry, we're having a bad storm and I got knocked off, somehow my partial got posted.

You are looking at the wrong report, your search engine may be different but this is the address I'm talking about.  It clearly states the breeds not breed types.  It is very detailed and DOES include Canada compiled from news reports dating to 1982.

Quote:

Merritt Clifton, editor of Animal People, has conducted an unusually detailed study of dog bites from 1982 to the present. (Clifton, Dog attack deaths and maimings, U.S. & Canada, September 1982 to November 13, 2006; click here to read it.) The Clifton study show the number of serious canine-inflicted injuries by breed. The author's observations about the breeds and generally how to deal with the dangerous dog problem are enlightening.

This is the Editor of a magazine...... News articles ( IN THIS CASE) is not a formal way of documentation. Nor can it be considered fact when there are so many breeds of dog that look like APBT. Just because some one says they have a APBT doesn't mean that it is. PAPERS Also if you read down to the notes you will find it to be very one sided. ALSO the dog bite law site gives a link to the same CDC site but it has been tampered with, it says "PITBULL" not PIT BULL TYPE. In the mean time....... http://www.animalpeoplenews.org/IMPORTANT_MATS/roadkillsTips.html Here are some of their tips to protect animals from becoming road kill..... Don't worry about your own safety......

Okay Angela I'm starting to get where you're coming from with your Pits.  I have no idea why you are even on a GSD site, all you talk about, ask about and argue about are Pits.  End of conversation, I'm interested in GSD's

AMEN SPARROW:     I didnt know this was going to get into a brawl over a pit bull......I think we just wasted a whole lot of computor space with all the garbage just spewed....

No amount of stats ,nor proof by some woman in Colorado, Washington, or any state in the Union, will make any human being with a concern for family and safety of others ,.

Two women Libbe and Greenlee , arrested in Big Sandy , Texas, is a horrible another case of dog abuse in the greatest....no telling what the state will find in that incident , as they are still cleaning up the mess of dogs dead ,and stuffed in bags, ice chests. and far worse...

The Pit bull or pit bull type brings unhappiness, sorrow and hurt to thousands of american citizens yearly.....no telling how many more maulings of small children or humans have gone on while we are on here, throwing facts around...I could care less what the pit bull does or doesnt do...Im tired of hearing about them     let them all go away......and contrary to what some of you say..,,,,the banning of them is sure and will come.....the german shepherd will stay the royal breed it is, if we just keep this base a goin'........in the right direction.....

We will try to keep shepherds well bred and in a higher manner of breed...one everyone will want to own...

Who knows, it soon may become the mascot of the Whitehouse, and in place of the eagle we will put the head of a "Shepherd."

Well YellowRose, I looked at Angela's profile and she started on this site with video of her Pits doing Schutzhund and asking for advice and getting shitty with people when they gave her the advice she asked for!  Then we get a picture of her brother's Pit and this whole thread hijacked by her cap locks and oh, by the way, she mentioned in passing she also happens to own a GSD.  Well, I don't have anything against Pits but she's got the attitude of one and danm it I come here learn to talk about GSDs.  Thank you!

by Angela Kovacs on 21 August 2007 - 08:08

So why are you still talking to me??? Why dont you read the whole thread since you know so much about me now, and if I am a Pit does that make you and YR Mike Vick??? If you really wanted to talk about GSD you would not be here.......

If this thread bothered anyone that much it would have been deleted.
