KLTV 7    NEWS    IT WAS IN THE NEIGHBORS YARD.........    Tina Till    in Slocum Texas

The mothers arm was in the pits mouth when the guys shot the dog.....she says the dogs flung her and was killing her daughter...Family pet grew up with kids....she says no one should own one.....she says if her friends had not gotten there and the neighbor gave them the gun  , she wouldnt be having this conversation.

The child is in a Tyler Hospital undergoing surgery, and is critical but stable. SHe will need extensive follow up surgeries...

I think its time for something ???????????????????   I dont have an answer.....

Do any of you?

Could a german shepherd do this also?

Sounds like the neighbors tried to keep their dog confined, tied and in a fenced yard.  The only thing more, which would be good for everybody, is to padlock their gates so nobody can accidently walk into the yard.

Yes, a GSD could do the same.   All breeds have bad ones that could do damage, how much damage would depend on the size of the dog and child.  The one thing we don't need is more BSL though.

Many dogs bite people every year but most bites are basically minor in nature in comparison to the damange some breeds can do such as the pitbulls. Most dogs including GSD's will bite once and stop but some breeds, again like pitbulls continue the attack until severe damange is done and/or the victim is dead.   I am not blaming the dogs at all just stating facts. The world has plenty of idiots and unfortunetly some of them are dog owners.

There is no selective breeding going on with Pitbulls other than size and looks perhaps.  Here in my local paper I see many litters of pups advertized with all sorts of different registries and being sold for $50.00.  The fighting dogs used to be bred for dog aggression alone and were put down if they ever showed aggression towards humans.  If the owner had invested in a $300.00 kennel to contain the dog, this might have been prevented.

I found this story, but it may not be the same one as it is quite different from what was described in the above posts:

I am dealing with a lady right now that is going to be in the same situation if she does not get control over the dog. This is how this stuff really happens..... I get a call from a lady saying that her pit keeps biting her and that she cant take it anymore. I try to calm her down to find out what is really going on. At first I thought maybe there was something wrong with the dog. ( IT IS NOT NORMAL for a pit to randomly bit their owner) I soon realized that something was wrong with the owner. I offered to come to her house and meet the dog. Once I got to her house it became very clear to me what the problem was. She had the dog tied to a post outside the door and had the cable running under the door!!!!!!?????? I told her to go ahead and bring the dog out so I could meet him. She said to me " you might want to stand back, I dont know what he will do". I thought to myself how can someone who has owned a dog for 3 years not know how it will react???? She is then dragged by her heals out the door by an 80lb Pit. He barks at me the whole way out the door. But is was not a mean bark. Anyone that has every been around Pits will tell you that they bark and howl when they are overly excited. I made peace with the dog and so did my 7 year old daughter. The lady was "SO AMAZED" to see her dog so calm. By this point I am so mad I want to scream, I told the lady that she only has 2 chooses, get a trainer and work day and night to get control or GET RID OF THE DOG. This dog is very sweet, I wish that I could take the dog from her before something bad happens.

You brought your 7 year old daughter to see a dog you had been having a conversation on the phone with an owner , that had a biting problem....

Pray tell me, WHat in corn county , would you have done if that pit bull attacked your 7 year old child,,,you are not physically able to get it off of her, or do you carry a gun in your belt?

These neighbors of this 4 year old mauled child , said the same thing ,,,oh the dog is sweet, it plays with children all the time...the Mother of the bit child said the same thing" on national tv..but now her advice to the whole nation......NEVER OWN A PIT BULL    AROUND ANY CHILDREN.......

i CANT BELIEVE I JUST READ THIS.....

I am one person that thinks pitbulls or horribly discriminated when it comes to biting people. The poor thing was probably locked outside on a chain it's entire life! I understand why that happened. Sure they said it was a "family" pet. But do they know what a family pet is? I doubt it. Don't get me wrong, i've had so many troubles with pitbulls, I don't even know why I defend the breed. But that's because my dad was into the "big bad dog" thing, and he bought the meanest dog he could find. It ended up killing one of my cats, a dog, and critically maiming another cat. I was heartbroken at my loss, and ready to kill any pitbull that came into my sight.

But then my sister got the most adorable little pitbull pup. He's so nice, you know he would never hurt anyone. And he has stayed that way.

I encourage people to find and buy pitbull's as pets, but only if they know what they're buying and know what they're getting into.
