By all means let's stick to only facts and information  about GSDs.  Judging by the few very threads  that actually contain that solid information it would take about two minutes to read though the entire message list.  It would be a real time saver.  But then it wouldn't matter because no one would come here to read it anyway.

If you want to talk about only what YOU want to discuss, I would suggest that you spend $100.00 or so and and buy your own site, then you can "have it your way."

A few years ago this website had GSD people and a few judges that would contribute and offer excellent information. One could come here and get real information from some knowledgable people. The information to BS ratio was about 70/30.

Since then many of the knowledgable posters tired of the attacks and BS and just left, taking with them their knowledge and willingness to share information with those that sincerely wanted to learn about the breed.

I for one, being new, appreciate the experience and valuable advice from many here, but I also do like seeing pictures of other dogs.  I spend hours looking at top dogs on the pedigrees and really, really want to know what a "top" dog is.  I look at every post that has to do with disease, hip xrays and sometimes chime in on a fun post just to get to know others and hope that by doing so, some can get to know me in a small way.

I believe that this site is a "community", all based around the GSD, a common love we all have.  But as Bob-O very wisely stated - "The messageboard is just that; and it is supposed to be a place to seek/give advice, seek/give mentoring if applicable/desired and discuss ways to make better our dogs."

How can I advance my knowledge if I don't have a "not so good" dog to compare to a "great dog" or "bad Hip xrays" to compare to "good Hip xrays"??

I do stray away from the bashing posts - I feel they are "fruitless", I do check the "Beware" posts as I want to know what makes a "bad Breeder" so I can avoid making the same mistakes.  I have learned more from this site in 5 months then I had in the previous 3 years of studying gsd's - I could read stuff all day long but not understanding some of the lingo left me with lots more ????'s.

Thank you to all of the old timers still here giving advice, know that it is appreciated and heeded.  And, I will be the first to apologize if I have offended any in my ignorance, but I still do like trying to "know" in some small way who I am taking advice from, hence the appreciation of the "fun" posts.

Dog1, I remember those days.........  I learned so much.

vonissk,

I would agree, come on back over to leerburg. No sense in putting up with a nasty bitch like Shepherd Woman, who obviously thinks more of her dog and herself than she should.

Hopefully she herself does not breed.

Oh dear. I am as guilty of wandering off-topic as the next person, and guiltier than most. I see this board much the same way as I would see a cicle of people at any dog event, hopefully a circle of friends for the most part, who would share their experiences, hopes, dreams, successes and failures with one another, ask for and offer advice, etc. sure, we digress often, but as long as we remain civil, what the heck? I don't read every thread, just the one's I think might be informative or entertaining. Apparently there is no shortage of band width, thanks to Oli. I personally enjoy the Let's Get to Know Each Other a Little" thread. Its fun to discover who we're sharing with instead of wondering whose behind all the screen names. Good stuff to while away some time now and then.

Too nice to stay inside today though...

SW, ever since you have signed on to this board your goal seems not to be to learn all you can about this breed but rather to cause controversy over long coats and to put those with long coated GSD's on the offensive. I seldom respond to your posts anymore since you managed to make me the heavy in one of your earlier debates over breeding coats. You took my saying that if they are not eligible for a breed survey and considering a long coat is a DQ in the SV ring, then IMO they should not be used for breeding and spun it around to sound as if I held those who breed coats responsible for all GSD's sitting in rescue. We also discussed why long, soft coats are a detriment to tending dogs in Germany. All you took out of any of this was - those who don't breed coats are jealous of Chaos oand his "Championship". It's not about liking or not liking long coats or thinking that they are pretty ot not, it's about breeding to the SV standard of perfection or not and why the SV has determinded that a long coat shold not be used for breeding. Do you know why? I still don't.

When you first introduced Chaos you said he was a "Champion" but neglected to say it is a UKC title, not AKC or anything at all connected to the SV. A UKC title in the grand scheme is not a big deal and not many here are going to go all gaga over that. You need a reality check - this is a board frequented by serious breeders and handlers who put titles on their dogs and breed survey them before they even think about breeding them. To them an AKC championship is a joke, so why would you think anyone would be impressed with a UKC title when it's a lot easier to obtain than one from the AKC? If a dog can walk, it can probably earn enough points to be called a UKC Champion.

Sorry to be so blunt, but I find your trying to belittle those who don't agree with showing and breeding coats to be offensive and childish. Now you are working on Vonnisk who has repeated told you in plain language that he/she does not like coats. You have taken that to mean he/she is jealous of those who have long coats that win at UKC shows. Are you with me on this - do you get it?

Let it drop now and generate a thread that is educational and worth discussing.  I don't mind the personal stuff and only read the threads that are of interest to me. I think some of the personal stories are cute and interesting and give me an insite into who that person really is.  Over the years I've met some lovely people here and my interest in getting to know them was peaked by something they said about their life such as the way they refer to their dogs. However, I do understand that small talk is unnerving to some and respect their feelings.

Correct me if I'm wrong,

Anyone can post?     Anyone can choose to reply or not?

Everyone has the choice of what to read or not?

A long thread will not crash the site?

Everyone has an oppinion?

Freedom of speach is necessary period?

These kind of post's seem to get the most threads?

Some people get personal?

Its all good?

Everytime the sun rises we are blessed with a new day?

Everyone have a good day, lifes to short as it is.
