Shepherd Woman

by Shepherd Woman on 25 November 2007 - 17:11

zacsmum, I love your post!  You put your thoughts into words very nicely : - }  I hope you continue to post and show us your pics.

zacsmum, you can't possibly own the perfect dog! I do! Mine! Loved your post.

Betty, great post as well.

But as to the subject line, I have much more fun learning about facts and different approaches than looking at trivial stuff! I come here to learn about German Shepherds. That is fun for me. The other kind of fun I can have someplace else. And yes, when someone posts a picture of a dog and has the guts to ask for opinions I learn. I try to feel out who has the ethics, believes and knowledge I can learn from. Again, learning is fun. The rest I could not care less about.

Sorry, gal, your check was insufficient. Remember that I have some incriminating photos of you being unduly familiar with a certain male dog!!!

Seriously, folks, if you wish to post photos of your beloved critters every time they attend to their bodily functions, take time to create a "gallery" for your dogs. When you wish to make frequent references to your dog, use the "comments" feature you discuss the dog or announce additional photos to his gallery. This gives a permanence and continuity to you dog's record that is not misplaced in the archives going back months and years.

On his welcome page, this is what Oli has as a mission statement of the PDB:

The aim of pedigreedatabase is to be a tool for breeders. Hopefully we manage that and in doing so create a professional hub for people to get information about their favorite breed.

To me, these words stand out: "aim", "tool", "breeders", "professional", and "information".  I surely don't see anything about creating a "social hub". Do you?

Repeated and deliberate failure to to honor Oli's "mission" amounts to an insult to him and to his hard work.

For those wishing a social hub, perhaps you should approach Oli about creating a "chatroom" feature.

See? It works, when the brain goes into gear before the mouth, interesting, polite expressions of opinions from different people. I agree with you Animules, and indeed, our beautiful breed wouldnt be where it is today without the experiences and efforts of so called "old timers". I hope to be one myself one day!  Progress is only down to the efforts of dedicated individuals, and im sure everyone here appreciates their efforts and input. In the U.K the last ten years or so have seen some huge changes, and i hope one day, the two very different schools of thought on type will meet somewhere in the middle. We have some stunning dogs here in the U.K now, thanks to the efforts of very dedicated individuals, who no doubt in their turn learned from "old timers". Healthy, sound and sane dogs should be the goal, if possible eliminating genetic and other faults along the way. Handsome is as handsome does, and my dog is my pin up, and also my great friend. I no longer show, i dont breed, i have no time to undertake it properly since, trivia now, i became a singleton again!  indeed i am lucky to have accomodation and a job which allows me to keep my dog. So i suppose that makes me a dreaded "pet owner". Nonetheless a good one though, and still very interested in the shepherd as a breed, and always happy to learn from others experiences, so keep the interesting posts coming, but please allow for input from others who dont always agree with you. We Brits hate rudeness, and love a healthy debate or two. Our dogs are from the same ancestors as everyone elses in the world, and we love them, no matter what. My present dog has a horrendous set of hips, total score 58, bred out of a show champion, and a bitch with excellent hips. No ill health yet though, seven years old, and still an overgrown puppy, it doesnt mean he is a different dog from the puppy that i fell in love with all those years ago, hes still the best dog in the world.

Back to the OP

The guy owns the other forum, pays for the bandwidth, and it is clearly targeted at working dogs. Since you are not paying for his forum, what makes you think that your input into how it is controlled is appropriate?  All you have to do is read a few posts to see that it is not a "show dog" forum.

Germanshepherds.com and GSDworld offer more than enough chatty opportunities.  Some of us really don't want to wade through all that stuff.

I have been reading the threads and not sure why you had to "announce" that you were leaving.  If you don't like it you can quitely walk out the door, go to the other forums, or pay to host your own forum.

Yahoogroups.com will host a chat list at no cost to the owner.
