Thanks for the update, Molly. Blackie/Maximus is a very fortunate boy to be with you!
I just hope we can place him before the doper gets out of the slammer and comes around wanting him back! What a bit of poetic justice it would be if the dog who once guarded a drug dealer's stash ended up taking a bite out of crime on the other side of the fence, eh? :))))

There is a small chance he may be a Police K9 missing since March from a NJ department
I remember hearing about that. Wouldn't that be something.
I believe their was a bicolor male that went missing from a Pa K-9 unit about 18 months ago as well, can't remember the details very well, I'll see if I can track down the news story..all I remember was that the handler was female and very upset....can't remember if they recovered him or what...jh
We have contacted the agency who lost the K9 last spring. Probably no the same dog, but certainly worth checking out.

Kalibeck, do you remember the PA department who lost the bicolor dog? The one lost in march was from NJ - still not sure if the lost K9 was bicolor or black - they say "mostly black" which could describe bicolor, but I am getting in touch with "Scotty's" handler and will make sure he sees pictures of Maximus/Blackie to be sure he is or isn't his dog before we pursue placing him. If there is another missing bicolor K9 then I'd certainly like to find out the handler's or departments' information as well.

He really IS a prick in the kennel.

And I have NO DOUBT the drug dealers are responsible for that. They probably teased him through the fence, to make sure he'd go ballistic if anyone approaced the property.
It all makes sense now why he acts like that. He was taught to be way. Hopefully with some time that will level out.
Molly, is he a completely different dog once out of the kennel?
oh yes I can now open his door and he walks out completely calm, sits for treats and seems very clear when he's out. Of course I haven't "tested" him, we're just getting to know each other - but he is only "actively aggressive" in the kennel and crate. I have no doubt he would bite however, he is not acting in fear, and seems to be very sure of himself.

Molly, I'll see if I can locate that story, it was quite a while ago, but the dog was lost not too far away from here, I think, because they were looking for him in this area. I'll post on this thread if I find it. jackie harris
