CAN PEOPLE GET THE HINT THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH NENZS BEHAVIOR!!!

I beg your pardon?  Is there a comprehension problem here?

There very much is something wrong with Nenz's behavior.  It's out of control and your friend doesn't have a clue as to how to correct the situation. That's been pointed out time and time again in this thread.  It seems at this point that neither one of you (if you are not the same person) are willing to recognize that it is a problem, much less what needs to be done to correct the behavior.

You have received sound advice from some knowledgeable people here.

Nenz's behavior is dangerous.  It's a disaster waiting to happen.  It's a lawsuit waiting to happen, against you, for the medical bills of whichever innocent person will be injured by Nenz as this unacceptable, dangerous behavior continues and escalates.  The dog will probably ultimately be destroyed and that's on the owner for neglecting him.  Neglect comes in many forms.  This is just one.

The owner needs to locate a competent, knowledgeable trainer in her area who can work with her and Nenz to put a stop to his dangerous, unacceptable behavior.

I'm not sure how anyone could have made it any more clear to you/her than what was said here in this thread.

The river in Egypt mentallity never ceases to amaze me.

 Melba,

No apology is necessary. Believe it or not, I, like many here, really do want to help. But sometimes people come here looking for absolution for their stupidity, laziness, poor breeding practices or lack of ethical behavior. It gets old and one learns quickly to read between the lines. There is a long history here, and like I and others have pointed out, when things go badly with a GSD or any large breed, the breeds suffer, not to mention the individual hurt and the dog who often ends up being put down.

Sometimes one cannot help because some people really DO NOT want to hear the answers they get. This is such a case.

Nenz needs some training.  There's a time and a place for that sort of behaviour.

It COULD be a problem that is very easily fixed.  But, this is a bite waiting to happen.  These types of reactions generally don't stay on the same level, they tend to escalate.

I did not read all the posts but from I could gather people are trying to give some advice so please, for your own and dog's sake, take it. Whether the dog had any training in Germany its hard to say.  I think he is acting on his own, how he sees fit. I will say that his intentions are good, protecting his family, and thats praiseworthy. So far he is just bluffing, no bites. But it can happen any day now. His desire to protect his family is commendable but it must be properly formed, shaped and channelled. As rezkat5 said It most probably could easily be fixed.

Kenan-  I believe if you read above it was stated the dog has "nipped" before.....today a nip, tomorrow a bite, next day a mauling....I guess at the eulogy it will start off something like "Nenz was a good boy".

Stick a fork in me I'm done! lol

well for anyone who cares to know, we have company over now. nenz did his woof woof and phil went out thru the kitchen again. i called nenz over and he's laying under the puter desk keeping my feet warm........phil came in from the kitchen and not a woof out of nenz. i have decided to keep him under the puter like i did back when he was in vest with me everywhere before i got spunky.......maybe he thinks he's on duty now, he always was good in vest. if i decide to take a  nap when company is coming i will keep him with me in the room. he is very protective of his area in front of the couch where he sleeps. if i have him with me elsewhere in the house he seems fine.

agar to answer your question, i tell people he bites because i don't want people to think this a friendly dog. of course many people don't believe me because they have seen how he is at the local homeless shelter where i sit around with friends and bs during the summer, i have both dogs down there getting petted and being given treats when the weather is nice.....

in case you're wondering why sometimes i want someone to pet the dogs and sometimes i don't, i'm bipolar, my moods vary alot. sometimes i feel very social and sometimes i just want everybody to just leave me alone.

by FionaDunne on 05 February 2008 - 20:02

Your "bi-polar" moods, etc. have nothing to do with the proper training and control of Nenz.  Nor should it be used as an excuse for not getting proper help training this dog out of his bad behavior.

If your "bi-polar" moods prevent you from properly training and controlling this dog and continues to cause the neglect of this dog in that area, then you need to rehome him to someone who can/will do what is necessary to correct the unacceptable behavior before he and an innocent victim become just another statistic in the "bite/dangerous dog" category.

This dogs behavior should not be dependent upon your "moods", which by definition of bi-polar are not dependable.

Again, you've been given good advice by many here.  I hope for Nenz's sake you choose to take it to heart.

Instead of saying he bites, tell them he is in training, so no, maybe some other time. Saying he bites is also trouble, because in the off chance he did bite after you told someone that, now you have a dog that you absolutely know is a danger out in public.

i agree with Agar, when they ask me, I tell them "he has teeth".

As for that spot in front of the couch, THAT IS NOT HIS!!! Its yours. Nothing belongs to him. It is by your goodness that he gets food, water, excersise, etc... That is why working with a trainer would be very beneficial. He is a dog, and must be treated like a dog first, a spoiled baby 2nd.

And yes, for any curious, i spoil my dog. BUT, she knows where her place is in my house and works her butt off nearly every day. Unless whatever situation were in has to do with kitty crunchies or spagetti she does exactly what i tell her every time.
