I have been using Royal Canin for a few months now with two of my dogs with very good results. My female is picky about her food and seems to like it well where other "top"brands she turns her head up to.She has good stools, good coat and a healthy overall condition. It is pricy,so I cant afford to feed it to all of my gang, but the ones that need the extra boost(pregnant, needing coat help, wheight ect..)get it. It's well worth the extra price.

I'm feeding this food since about 1 year with much success. All dogs like it, the coatcondition is very well, the pub is very small, and the price is okay, because you don't need so much food for each dog. I'm living in germany.

The problem I have found with the RC German Shepherd 24 is the addition of soy isolate and soy oil as part of the ingredients. I like Diamond's Chicken Soup Adult blend for my dogs. Contains a lot more meat and much mor affordable too. The Senior blend of this food is really good for dogs with digestive problems but the rest of my dogs get this food. I switched to Royal Canin 24 over a year ago and I am pleased with the nice coats, firm stools and over all well being of the dogs. The like the food and eagly consume it. I find I don't have to feed as much to maintain their weight, which is good, because it is pricy.

Personally I think Royal Canin is overrated and over priced. Of the three puppies I imported last year, the one raised on Royal Canin was in the worst shape when he arrived. I switched to Royal Canin to give it a try when the pups were between 6 -10 months old. There was no noticeable change in the condition of my dogs to warrant paying double the price, and I found the dogs needed to eat more of the Royal Canin to maintain their weight. I have always fed Nutro Natural choice lamb and rice. It has glucosamine, antioxidents and is guaranteed to improve skin and coat. The stools are firm and less volume. Anytime I have tried something new, I have always gone back to Nutro. The coats are gorgeous and the dogs are healthy and have lots of energy. It is also cost effective and Nutro has a breeders plan and puppy packages.I also give them fresh bones to chew on.

I feed only raw and have been extremely happy. You can get so many different concentrations of vitamins, minerals and really important balances of nutrients. Whether you want to "do your own" or go with the likes of Omaspride (which offers a wide variety of frozen and from what I hear, freeze dried combinations). The fresh clean raw bones also keeps them out of trouble. The choices are there and it is just a matter of research to find the food best for both you and your dog's individual situation.

I've fed "almost" every brand of dog food over the past 15yrs. Including the "raw" diet,...before it was popular. I never recommend a food or product that I have not tried on several of my own dogs for a good amount of time,..so that I may have an educated opinion of the product. Since we breed, show and train our own dogs....their overall endurance and physical condition is extremely important to me. A show-dog who cannot continue to move and is out of coat & physical condition will not do well in the ring,....no matter how nice it's structure is, the judge will place you back in line. Royal Canin has been one of the best retail foods I've found on the market. It is costly,...but I feed less dry mass per dog than the other foods I've used. My dogs coats are in great shape and the dogs themselves have less body fat and more muscle. They seem to utilize the food better than other brands. My second choice food would be Nutro Products. I used Nutro for a very long time and I was happy with the results,.....I've just found that Royal Canin gave my dogs the "extra" I wanted. My suggestion is to try "High/Quality" foods and give them enough time to conclude for yourself. Thanks for your time, RL/HH

Vikram - I have raised two litters on this food they loved it ate well, stools were good, they looked great, condition wise. I found that when I kept the one pup she grew very quickly on it, she doubled her size by four months, this worried me, bone problems etc, I know of one other breeder also raised a litter on it and two pups got panosteitis, they grew very quickly to they were very large boned, I do not know whether this was the food though, they were on it at the time, I would feed it up to 6 mnths and change to german shepherd 24 in the range depending on how large boned the pup was and monitor the growth rate, I did this and it was ok.. Eukunuba,Purina,Hills science diet have large amounts of Ethoxyquin in them and I have avoided these foods because of this it is a preservative and it is put in large amounts, I read it can be toxic.. it is not displayed on the packaging...A rep for the above could confirm this if anyone knows one could they ask them if they still use it in the foods..

That should be Royal Canin 24. The 30 is for another breed. We've fed RC24 for about a year now. The 10 year old GSD gets 2 cups daily, the 10 month old puppy gets 3 cups daily. The older dog seems healthier since we switched to RC with more energy and freedom of movement. The puppy is growing nicely without putting on too much weight. Excellent coats, clean teeth. The size of the kibble is large enough for big dogs so that they have to chew rather than inhale their food. Stools are small and firm. We pay $39 US per large bag which is only two dollars mre than the next best quality food, Wellness. We had used Canidae for the whelp because that's what the breeder fed him but could not get firm stools. Royal Canin is expensive but we feel the benefits outweigh the cost.
