That is a German bred dog, not a American bred.

OTHER THEN THAT YOU ARE RIGHT NO SCHUTZHUND..BUT I HAVE SEEN HERDING TITLE ISN'T THAT WORKING?? I HAVE SEEN TD, UD AND MANY OTHER TITLES.

WHAT I DON'T GET IS WHY IT ABSOLUTLY HAS TO BE SCHUTZHUND  TO BE WORTH SOMETHING. A DOG CAN BE AN GOOD BLIND DOG..DOESN'T MEAN HE HAS TO KNOW HOW TO BITE IN A SLEEVE. SEARCH AND RESCUE DOGS DON'T NEED PROTECTION WORK.  HERDING SHEEP DOES NOT IMPLIES TRACKING OR PROTECTION.

GSD ARE POLYVALENT DOGS..THEY CAN DO A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS..THAT'S WHY IT IS THE MOST VERSATILE DOG BREED IN THE WORLD..

First of all, for the love of God, release your caps lock.

Second, schutzhund is not the be all and end all of what makes a good dog, and I have said this before...but any breedworthy dog should be totally CAPABLE of it. It was, after all, devised as a test of breedworthiness for the German Shepherd Dog. But I'll bite.  How many champions have a CT? OTCH? MACH? FEMA certification?

Come on now, out of all the American style champion dogs out there, you can't find a few with a real working title?

KCzaja asks for the names of 10  dogs with american lines going back 3 generations that are titled  and you pull up a GERMAN dog as your so called proof.  Now that's funny, but what is really sad is you can't find them.  What's even sadder is because of the sad state of the American Line dogs you would be hard pressed to find 10 dogs from any big name american kennel that wouldn't wash out in  training to a schH1.  They don't have what it takes.

I've seen Jim, he's a very nice dog with a great temperament.

That's why Schutzhund is considered the perfect test for breed worthiness.  You must compete in tracking, obedience and protection work.  Concentration, focus and courage are needed to compete.  A true GSD should be able to do all three with confidence.

Of course we all know that things have slacked off in the last few years on the bitework but hopefully they are rectifying this.  I know that the dog I choose to breed to should, and will, love the bitework as well as doing well in the other phases.

OK..that's the first one that came to my mind..my mistake ..And yes maybe he's the only one with schutzhund title..( in the last years)

I can't argue on this....

But Hey...we've been doing other things like I said..You know it is not easy when you have a showline to go to your local club without being bashed at by working dog people.

So a lot of people left..That's what I did.now I participate in aAKC/CKC events..people are much more friendly and I have a good time insted of trying to put up with insults..

I have seen a lt of great american dogs with very good temperament If trained would they have passed a shutzhund title?? Probably has much has some dogs I have seen on the Sieger or others coming here with false titles...

We had a whole thread about this awhile back: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/21116.html#21235

There was some very interesting discussion that took place, too. Well worth a read....

Too bad we don't se Firethorn or Sunshine around here much anymore. They were very knowledgeable posters!

I had an American Specialty Showlines GSD.  I Loved her to death and she taught me a lot. Many GVs and CHs in her pedigree.  8 generations back on both sides--no titles in anything.   Nada. Neither her temperament , working drives, nor conformation served her well.  I got a CD on her after a lot of work. I wanted to do more with my dog and she just couldn't  do it enjoyably.  My current dog is working line and he fits my lifestyle

Many in our local GSD breed club scratch their head as why the local police departments won't use their GSDs.  Many don't get it!!!  They don't get it!!!!

Yes, July900, not everyone can get handle a GSD who loves to work, Quote: THE FACT IS A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T NEED A SCHUTZHUND DOG AND ARE TOO WEAK TO OWN ONE. But breeding a FUNDAMENTALLY working dog--dumbing down the breed--to suit an owner's needs or for structure exclusively is not correct.

Lets be real, the American Specialty lines are bred for conformation and beauty, nothing wrong with that its a free society--mostly--however, they are still GSDs and they can post here.
