You right I was being extreme a bit in my first post. If you are pro eliminating extreme's on both of the sides of the camp you have nothing but my support. I am tired to see show line with no working ability and over angulated and tired of seeing work lines that got so much drives that are not suitable for leaving in most common environment

Within the SV system i think it unlikely that the BSP system would not have koreung so in effect it has been graded and that is the same for most of the countries that operate a suitable system to maintain our breed as a working breed, we the uk are one of a small few that completely ignore appropriate testing and both sides of the fence ie breed and working are as guilty as eac h other

I swear I will throw all my dogs and get out of the GSD world the day this hideous plan takes shape...
and I'm sure so will many of the stalwarts of the breed who strived for generations to maintain the working ability in the GSD.

cheers

Ahem, In the UK we have a Breed Survey, so would not a Breed Survey Class 1 plus a G rating or above in the Briting Sieger fulfill the requirements to have dogs that not only work but fulfil the breed standard conformation wise?

So for example my dog has a SchH3, a Breed Survey Class 1 and a G rating at the Sieger; what MORE should he have?

Langhaar

He should have more than enough with that,

But we are wasting time debating this on the continent the dogs all have Koreung so as such have been surveyed in their confirmation and found to be satisfactory

Amen to that Vikram! These showline lovers just wont leave the working dog be right? Whats the use of keeping a GSD thats only good in running around in circles?

Actually it should be the other way around! The SV should introduce strict measures to ensure that VA dogs can actually work! Most of the top VAs are totally useless in work! Its very sad that there is division in the breed we love! Showline, working line? What the hell there should be one type only! A type which can truly work!

Why not imply strict measures to ensure that over angulation and roach backs are destroyed!

Leave the gsd alone and start your own breed!

Call me ignorant and clueless, i dont care!

Some of you are nucking futs.

Beauty is in the work. If there never was a difference in what is considered beautiful, then why are the dedicated showline dogs around 90% useless in the work?? WHY does the GSD have massive differences ON PURPOSE ????

Well the show people do not work their dogs here in the states on average and it is much easier to get by when you do not have to train. It is funny that they get so much more for a dog that is basically a stuffed toy.....useless.

I have yet to see a GSD that cannot stop moving, due to excess drive. I would be interested in seeing that, or hearing from who ever owns it.

I don't know how many VA are not capable of work, some might be the result of bad training, and pampering the dog. For example I watched bite work of Vegas and he was one of the showlines that I liked till the moment he hit the sleeve. His bite was poor in my opinion but I belive that this dog has more behind him than he actually showed during his bite work. I would love to see one day what is this dog realy capable. I would love to see the breed come together and I am pro establishing strickt guide lines, for conformation and working tests, I would love to see GSD to go back to what it used to be, I would love to see correct structure GSD with true working ability. I belive the equal importance should be placed on both. I belive that a dog at a sieger show should perform the whole rutine minus tracking before conformation any dog not capable should not be allowed to participate. I know this is extreme but the way the breed is now I think extreme masures should be taken.

Quote from Videx:It is therefore time to introduce a mandatory  "CONFORMATION TEST" as an integral part of all SV & WUSV National Trials (BSP) and all National & International FCI Trials. The scores awarded in the CONFORMATION TEST to be included in the overall total scores for the final result and placings and grading of the Trial.

First of all having conformation evaluations or test as you call it is not a problem.I feel all breeds should be evaluated prior to breeding and making sure it is suitable for breeding. The problem with me lies in what people feel to be the appropriate conformation for the German Shepherd Dog.As a working dog enthusiast,I do not feel nor believe that the extreme angulations that the Show Lines carry are suitable for the Working Dog.We talk about it all the time here how the German Shepherd Dog of old, like the Malinois,Dutchie,Rotti,Dobie, all had a more square appearance.Nowadays our breed looks like a lopsided triangle.
My question is why is it that our breed has been the only one to encounter such an extreme change in its conformation, while all of the other working breeds have remained pretty much the same in structure????

Moving on to second idea outlined above which is the scoring:
I totally disagree with the fact of having to combine the scorimg from the conformation with the scoring from the actual working trial.I feel that until there is a set guideline for both Show/Working lines to follow as a single breed and not separated by the terms Show and Working you should not allow this. The difference in the two is extreme, too extreme to judge together as one breed!!!

by reason on 22 January 2009 - 13:01

I wonder if Videx wouldlike the working people to come up with GOOD ideas for the show people to do at their shows!
