"Sold a pup and they are having problems with the dog freezing up during training. They are using a trainer that is using a E Collar.  Please give your thoughts. I dont want it to sound like my info is just because I sold the pup. I dont think E Collars should be used on such young pups for obedience training."

e collar on a 3 month old is more then just stupid, its abuse!

Put the e-collar on the testicles of the trainer and give it a test drive.

Nope, I read the entire post and replied to it with the clear indication that I would report the matter, if true. :-) Animal abuse is a felony in Washington and Oregon, so my answer to the entire post is quite clear, if this is happening in this area.

I've gotta wonder what the HELL they were doing that made the pup freeze up in the first place if they think the logical answer and next step is an e-collar on 15 week old puppy.  Is there anyway the owners of the pup will consider dumping this "trainer" for someone who knows what they are doing - before they ruin forever  the little tyke?

If you read the original post, it sounds like the e-collar is already on. Quote "They are using a trainer that is using a E Collar." In which case the puppy is freezing because it knows what's coming........this is appalling. Poor little guy, should be having fun with a rag or a tug or some toys and treats. The owners must be complete idiots - and what kind of trainer would do that to a pup?

If you check out the "Sit Means Sit" website, they appear to use e-collars for all things and there is reference to use on a "young puppy." Hmmm You know, it's nice if someone can walk through a crowded stadium or exhibition hall with a couple of dogs OFF leash. Nice control. Irresponsible and STUPID risk of liability, though, as there are people walking through their "off leash," too and some of them are children (who become rabbits to a dog in the blink of an eye with their fast movements), not to mention folks with phobias about dogs. Anything could happen. Oh, well.. Takes all kinds, I guess.

in addition to the unreasonable training method being use on this young pup, which is stomach turning, i would be very concerned about the pup's overall well-being.  i would have serious questions about the mental state and reasoning capacity of anyone who would conscent to this type of training for such a young pup.  the choice to use an e-collar on a 3.5 mo pup shows a true lack of commonsense, which makes me wonder what other areas this person fails to act with a level-head.

first thing i would do to try and remedy the situation: i would find the name and number for a first rate trainer in the area where the pup lives; then ask the owner to "cease and desist" with e-collar training and switch to this other trainer (or someone with similar knowledge and understanding of puppies and how the learn); and if they will not comply ask them to return the pup to you.
imo this is not a good situation and someone needs to intervene on this pup behalf.
