Pretty brutal considering what I saw on their website.  I'd better shut up though.......

Was the judge's decision based on that she referred to them as puppy mills, or because she stated the health conditions of the dogs? $10,000 + Dollars??? That is absolutely unreal!

MI GSD- I agree completely with your train of thought. I hope the appeal process works in the owners favor. I checked out Paws "R" Us Kennel's website. I personally liked their response to the following question:

"Q. Do you have the kind of dog I'm looking for?
A. "I've been looking everywhere" sound familiar? This is why we offer a variety of breeds to better serve the public. "

Yep, we breed all types so that we don't have to figure out the attributes, or how to better any of the breeds. That's definitely a great service to the public...

Puppy Mill: If the shoe fits...

There are many, many people who cannot understand the judge's decision in this case, but more than words, Lorie needs our financial support in order to appeal and only has a short time to do so. Please consider helping in any way you can by contacting her lawyer, Terry Green at Green and Vespry Lawyers in Ottawa in trust for appeal 200-190 O Connor St Ottawa K2P 2R3. She needs our support - it has been a long, drawn-out, process and we cannot just accept this ruling without taking it to the end. Please help Lorie in her ongoing fight to bring justice to puppy mill dogs.

The federal government can strengthen the animal cruelty act but not provincial animal welfare laws - and that is why the SPCA in Quebec is helpless to shut down puppy mills, unless they can prove "wilful cruelty". AnimaQuebec is mandated to enforce the Quebec animal protection act, but has publicly stated that their mission is to educate and inform, not prosecute.

Lorie found out the hard way about purchasing dogs from a puppy mill and originally posted on the Pets.ca forum to find out if more people had similar experiences. She was flooded with reports from people who had bought sick dogs and the conditions they were living in. What she stated on line was the truth, backed up by evidence.

Lorie held the torch for many years, never giving up on her mission to help end the suffering of puppy mill dogs. She now needs our support to appeal the judge's ruling in this very important case.

I don't know enough about this pace to call this MY definition of a puppy mill - but when I see statements such as "WHEN YOU BREED DOGS AND CATS AS A COMMERCIAL BUSINESS YOU ARE OPERATING A PUPPY MILL - The above is the world recognized standard as to what is a puppy mill. Dogs and cats are not chickens and cows, they are not bred to be eaten, lay eggs, or produce milk." - I lean towards agreeing with the judge.

I'll wait to read the actual judgment before forming any opinion on the matter.

Rather than throw away money on an appeal of this judgment, (which is an issue of specific defamation) I suspect a more efficient and direct way to remedy the suffering of animals mistreated in ANY kennel, would be to strengthen the animal cruelty laws by contacting MPs and MLAs.
