Molly, I must've been posting at the same time as you. It's a done deal, unless he backs out at this point. I pointed out that he's spending money leaving her at the kennel, and a shelter will force him to make a donation if he brings her there, or at least the ones by me do.

I would NEVER let them have puppies back. They abandoned their dog over some fur on the floor. What did they think when they bought her? He admitted he was scared to call the breeder because he knew what he'd say about this decision. But he also knew he'd take her back and that not everyone is going to want a dog w/this temperament, so I'm quite glad he made the call.

Fingers crossed. I would love to skip that puppy stuff; if I had time to raise a puppy, I'd have kept one or two of my own! I also like the age; mature, but not getting old yet. I have a plan to keep a male from my next litter to breed back to her if all goes well- awesome East/West combo.

Thanks again and I will update as I know more.

If they are NOT dog people they do not Know what the dog is really worth so I WOULD NOT go in to any type of partnership with them (Molly haven't you learned) I would NOT buy a dog until it was OFA and only pay purchase price for said dog because it IS NOT TITTLED meaning owner has put nothing in to dog other than purchased PRICE!! JMHO

Agreed about the partnership thing - I was just saying if you offer "nothing" for the dog, it would seem fair that IF she turned out sound for breeding, you might offer puppy (price, not the actual puppy) or half-litter (money, not the puppies or partnership) back, as a part of the offer.  Just a thought - hope you get her for nothing.  That's what I would offer, with some puppy monies in addition in the case she ended up being breedworthy and produced puppies.  This could be in a contract, but I agree, no co-ownership or ownership of any puppies back.

Ok, now  I'm getting really confused. Are some of my posts not showing up? I swear I posted several times that I offered him $500 plus I pay all expenses, and he gleefully agreed (she was headed for the pound whether he admits it or not)...I'm not trying to get her for nothing. My very first post was because I was unsure what was fair to both of us.

Avery Hill...did you read any of my posts? HE WILL NOT HAVE HER XRAYED. HE DOESN'T WANT TO BOTHER. I AM ONLY PAYING 500USD FOR HER. That's a fraction of her purchase price.

ah - that's a very fair price then.  Good for you.  Hope she works out for you.

Thank you. I'm cautiously optimistic ;-)

I will make out like a bandit if she works out. Of course she's a long way from being proven breedworthy, but I do believe if she is as she was at 5 mos, which is the last anyone saw of her (anyone who knows anything ) then she's a very very nice dog caught in unfortunate circumstances.

Jenni78 ONLY TRYING TO HELP thought thats what you wanted when you posted your thread asking for a decision about buying an un OFA dog for your breeding program!! My response would have been OFA her( or) I am not buying her !!! BUT that's just me I don't need a 500.00 dollar rescue

And I appreciate your help. Really, I do.

However, I said several times that part of the reason I was asking for fair numbers is because the guy is in a hurry to get rid of her (and stop paying board and listening to his wife bitching about dog hair) and is not going to jump through a bunch of hoops like OFA in order for me to take her. This is the whole reason I was asking for advice- BECAUSE IT'S A GAMBLE since I DON'T have that option ahead of time. That's why I reiterated that to you- not trying to be bitchy, but that's the whole point- saying 'OFA her or I won't buy her wasn't an option," hence the post. ;-)

Worst case scenario, if I need to find her a home if she doesn't xray and her temperament is no longer impeccable, then at least she's with someone who will take the proper steps and time to find her a PERMANENT home. He had her health certificate done yesterday- about an hour after I said I'd take her. He's in quite the hurry, don't you think? I probably COULD'VE gotten her for free if I tried hard enough, but I'd feel guilty, especially if she ends up being a great producer.
