Why do people keep commenting when they don't READ the WHOLE thread first? Fucking annoying!

Ray you continue to start shit wherever you go. Do you have all of your teeth by chance? Why would anyone want to pay more for anything, than they have to? Not very smart business sense but we all all know you have NO sense so...

Sorry just a hormonal reaction from a crazy pregnant lady, that doesn't get rid of her dogs, to make room for baby. Seriously people, read the full thread and think about what your typing before hand.

I second that and I am not hormonal!!! lol

Jenni good luck to you and hope all works out well. I am sure you already do weed through some of the crap messages on here but as for the rest of us we wish you luck and hope the new girl is healthy and I am sure that she will be happy to get out of her situation and love you for it. I have to say that guy needs to grow a set and if it were me I would have told the wife to take a hike.lol I know if I were with a guy and he didn't like my dogs...well there's the door, don't let it hit ya in the ass on the way out.lol

Hope she works out for you Jen.  Why not take the dog if it benefits both of you.  You will always do right by the dog I know and if she works out for your breeding program all the better.

Thanks guys.

Raymond, Raymond, Raymond. What would the board be without Raymond? EVERYBODY loves Raymond!

Just for you, I will define what I meant by "making out like a bandit." I consider getting a hell of a dog at a relatively young age, at a GREAT price, out of lines I LOVE, making out like a bandit! Only a very very negative, angry person sees nothing but dollar signs. I think you missed the part about how I am choosing to pay for her JUST TO GET HER OUT OF THERE instead of asking for OFA xrays first. I''m afraid he wouldn't bother doing that, as he indicated, and she would end up with someone who won't be able to handle her either, and then she ends up homeless again, or worse. Plus, if she's xrayed first and they're bad, what does he do with her then? He knows he'll have a hard time selling her w/bad hips or elbows, so I REALLY worry about what  he'd do with her if that happened. I think it's better for her that I assume the risk and pay the money and guarantee that she gets a good home somehow or another.  Either I have about $1500 into the dog when all is said and done and she ends up being a good addition to my breeding program (and my HOME), or I spent $1500 to get a nice dog out of a not nice situation. <shrug> Worth it to me, every time. But hey, some question MY sanity as well! ;-) LOL

Seriously, thanks to every reasonable, thinking, reading person who answered. I really wanted a slew of different opinions because I really do want to be fair to everyone involved, and I got great feedback that mostly confirmed my perspective. I will feel much better when she is on my property and I know nothing bad will happen to her regardless of her xray results.

And I think we're pretty much done here! ;-)

I will offer a simple, yet tried and true method to purchase this bitch with minimal risk to either party.

Make a simple contract; whereas you agree to pay a certain amount for the bitch AFTER she passes a O.F.A. hip and elbow evaluation. Please note that you will pay for the costs of these evaluations; including the veterinary charges and the O.F.A. fees provided the bitch PASSES both evaluations. And please remember that O.F.A. "fair" is a passing evaluation for the hips.

And if the bitch does not pass either or both evaluations? You can agree to pay nothing at all (my practice) or (insert your percentage here) of the evaluation costs and NOT take the bitch. You should be able to negotiate a final cost for a PASSING bitch that includes the costs of the evaluations. In essence; let's say the base value of the bitch is $1,000.00; and the costs for the evaluations are $300.00. It is still a $1,000.00 bitch - not a $1,300.00 bitch.

If the bitch adheres 100% to the conformation standard then she is "show quality" by practice. This of course does not make her a conformation champion - it merely makes her eligible for the show ring. If her temperament is sound and her conformation is correct, then she is a very fair price at $1,000.00 to $2,000.00. The cost to feed and care for a GSD is roughly $500.00 annually, and someone had to feed her and pay for her veterinary care since she was born.

Good Luck!

I read the whole thread, some of it was like deja vu LOL!!! I commend you for maintaining your patience and answering the same questions over and over Jenni :-)
Sounds like you made a good deal, I wish you the best with her! Fingers crossed for ya...
I knew exactly what you meant about feeling like a thief... But it sounds like you got a good deal either way

I agree with others who said it, pregnancy never stopped me from buying or training LOL Maybe slowed me down more than I liked... And the dog hair.. well I thought I would save it to line the baby's bassinet... ;-)

I would just  ask them ''what are you willing to take for the dog??'' they may be willing to take much less or even nothing especially if they are paying board on the dog, that adds up quick

$1,000.00 and roll the dice and let the chips fall.

Stacy, deja vu- EXACTLY, LOL. The twilight zone song video was good, too. I try to be patient when the intentions are reasonably good, which most of them were. ;-)

I'm hoping to get her Monday. Here's a pic of her-not sure how old she is in this one:
