Very nice indeed.  May I ask how many sessions have you done to this stage?  I am relatively new to tracking and the worse bit is not having access to any field living in the suburbs.  So it has been choppy learning tracking for my dog.

Your young dog looks very calm and deep nose.  Could you elaborate how you got started?  Please.

Thanks all for the nice comments. Cee, I can't wait to see how we all do also, I am planning on the BH end of summer. What are your plans for your dog this year?

Poseidon, I started Kai on a scent pad at 3mo old, might have done 5 or 6 of them before we started footsteps. I layed a short straight track w/ footsteps close together with 1 piece of food in each step. In the beginning he was very fast and pulled very hard the first couple of months so was told by my TD to put a pinch on him and it did wonders. I made sure he got every footstep by keeping tension on the line and then layed longer and longer straight tracks. I  always put food in every step.At the end of the track I have a pile of food for his reward, once he reached the end I clicked so he knew he did a good job. A couple of months before the snow came I introduced corners w/ food and he learned that pretty quick.I would tell him through out the track "good suke" (spelling)  We do not track in the snow so he had the winter off and started tracking him again in march. SInce starting him tracking again this year I am no longer giving him verbal praise while he is tracking and no more click at the end of the track just verbal praise. I have also started to leave some food off the track. He has slowed down alot since last year so we are on the right path. I try to track him 3 to 4 days a week.

FInding a place to track is very hard, but I have some great places not to far from my house.

I am no expert in tracking and each dog is different but this works for my dog. I have learned alot over the last few years from my TD and club members.

Thank you jettasmom for running through your tracking with Malachai.  Are you still using the pinch for the tracking in the video?  Just wondering if it was phased out.  Great work.

Sounds like a good number of young dogs here are taking their BH this year.  Best wishes.  Thanks for sharing.

Poseidon, still using the pinch haven't decided on when to phase it out just yet.
