That's a really good and understandable analogy. Especially for someone who doesn't like organized religion either.

Her followers certainly seem to be brain washed to the point of cult like rants and behaviors

I hate breeder bashing, I agree with Hans, and Michael, I think this Lady loves her breed, and obviously has a market for them, so just stop. Again I hate posting on here. but really hate breeder bashing.

Tempa, From what I have seen there is a tremendous amount of consistency regarding the phenotype of the Shiloh. Yes, there are some that have the reverse mask, such as you are describing, which goes back to the Hobo lines. That trait also is within the purebred GSD lines as well.

Wrestleman, I am not brainwashed in the least. I entered into this whole thing unintended- never planned on having a Shiloh, never knew much about them and quite frankly didn't care, but due to circumstances here I am, an owner of one. I was a skeptic from the beginning and am certainly not one to be take in easily. I am ready to let this go- your opinions are you opinions and  nothing that I can say will change that and I can definitely live with that.  Do I agree with the way the breed founder handles everything? No, but I do have a great deal of respect for her and admire her for all she has accomplished.  All I know is that I have a dog who is a Shiloh and he is an awesome dog - not anything close to what many of you think a Shiloh is all about. The other Shilohs I know of are very much like him.

The day will come when the ISSR Shiloh Shepherd is recognized by AKC and then there will be no more talk about anyone trying to claim them to be GSDs. I always have been and always will be a GSD enthusiast and nothing will replace the GSD- ever...but there are other breeds will resemble them, such as the Shiloh, yet have different qualities and a different purpose...even if it is just to be a laid back family dog, which by the way is what most people want these days. We no longer live in a world where dogs are bred predominately for a specific job (yes, I am aware there are the exceptions). I am not a betting person, but I think once recognized by the AKC the Shiloh Shepherd will become an extremely popular dog because of the wonderful qualities it possesses, many of which came from the GSD.

Enough said. I am just sorry that you choose to focus more on the way the dog is being marketed than the actual dog itself. Plus, you choose to listen to hearsay rather than someone who has firsthand experience with a Shiloh such as Sunsilver, Hans and myself.

This thread has gone on far too long and I will just end in saying that I agree to disagree with all that are determined to hate either the breed or the founder.

Tina/Sunsilver/Char/Hans -- you all have been very polite and patient in trying to educate the detractors on this Thread.   You simply cannot reason with these people.   There was the mention of "cult followers" and "rants" -- this type of behavior was demonstrated by the detractors.    How embarrassing for them.

As far as shilohs hips records go. I asked Tina and this is  what she has said:

"He is probably looking at OFA -- most of our folks have been using PennHip because they rather pay more - cause FRED (Lanting) said it's better .

In any case -- OUR records are NOT for public scrutiny -- I don't even publish most of my pedigree data so it can't be stolen! Our data is kept IN HOUSE for the breeders to use when planning litters -- PERIOD!

...................................Dr. Padgett had a complete file of our HS 2000 data, and when we update it those files WILL become public 10 YEARS AFTER I AM DEAD "
So that should settle that.

I, most definitely , am not brain washed follower. I do not have Shiloh, but I do not have Chihuahua or Anatolian shepherd  either. That does not mean that I am against the breeds, the breeders who breed them or their registry or their philosophy. Everybody knows that I am Czech GSD man. And I do not like if you bash Portuguese water dog breeders or Ss breeder or whom ever the way you do here .  I then tend to defend them.  I am libertarian. Live and let live kind of a guy.
Also  I am just a bystander, who have seen the development of the Ss breed and I know how and why it happened and I respect tremendously Tina Barber for what she has achieved.  I was there during the beginning of it and I have talked to Tina about it during long evenings, when she was coming out with the idea. I have even tried to convince her to stay with GSD. The reason  for that was the perspective of the douting task to create a new breed. I told her that GSD is not so far messed up that it could not be fixed. Tina believed that the breed of GSD as such,  which she has loved  and still loves, caused her too much heart ache and wanted to created something new....her mainly emotional image of GSD what she remembered from her childhood when her father was training GSDs. I was there when we with Tina were talking about LMX which could improve the hips in the breed. Tina proved in practice, that if you use LMX you will improve the breed but was not able to find enough dogs from outside to maintain the genetic pool  of her stock. Every time she introduced new dog the system collapsed since the GSD was polluted too much with HD in order to be viable member of her LMX program. Then she had to start all over again and again and .... The frustration of  that was another reason for her to start form the scratch and with quality dogs.   I know this and much more about it. I know what is the truth behind creation of Shiloh shepherd more then most.  That is why it chops my hide to read the dribble here from people who have no clue.  From people who use  misspelled names for Shiloh like   "Shillo" or "Shilo", and who make superficial arguments like true  armchair generals which they are ,  just do not know enough of what they are talking about to make a reasonable argument about it.   And people who use ad hominem attacks ( the most primitive of the  sophistry)  like "brainwash", "religious cults" , are always  at the end of their  arguments.

Hans, I did not mean to imply that you own a Shiloh, but can see  now where some might get that idea (it was late when i wrote that post and I was tired- not thinking real clear). It is just that knowing Tina and her dogs for as long as you have, you've had a lot of firsthand experience with them. You probably know the history and facts of the breed better than most anyone, except for Tina. Thank you for trying so hard to educate others :)
The best always,
Char

Starrchar, Hans DID own a Shiloh (more than one, possibly) but that was years ago, when they were still GSDs.

I thought they were never GSD's but a completely new and different breed?
