I would just like to point out not all dogs with severe ED limp, I had my dog hip/elbow screened at 13mth under the BVA system grade 3 elbows 0:0 hips, at the age of 5 1/2 yrs there is no sign of any changes(DJD) to the hips and although he has scaring/fibrous tissue  around the elbow joints he still as full movement within those joints as confirmed by x-rays and orho assessment this week, no abnormalities within the spine either.
If you are going to sedate for x-rays of the hips then elbows might aswell be done at the same time, for an experienced vet it does not take much longer and in my dogs case I would not have known he had ED.

Sorry OGBS, I meant at least 5 generations of titled dogs.  For Javir's offspring that would be a minimum of 6 generations of titled dogs - most with schH3s.

And I agree with bgstout, pet breeders just don't get it.   We are miles apart, and that's fine.  To each their own.  My point is, some of you seem to take offence to what Steve has said,  you may not like the way he says it, but the truth of the matter is he cares about and is passionate about the breed, and he has said nothing others haven' t said before.   Some of you could stand to learn from him.

Wildmoor...key words in your post are "IF YOU ARE GOING TO SEDATE for xrays of the hips then elbows might as well be done at the same time..."

We discussed earlier how dogs w/ED in both elbows often do not limp, as they are unable to compensate for the bad joint when both are bad.

Sue, I have an issue w/Steve in that he apparently cannot read, yet he continues to insult me and spout off about totally irrelevant issues. While he may be passionate, he gives everyone a bad name when he rambles on in an incoherent rant.

Now, I will say again, how very interesting I find the turn of this thread, since it was started so as not to hijack MY OFA thread about my "excellent" bitch. Now THAT is ironic, that in this thread Steve repeatedly attacks me for not screening my dogs. ROFL.

To humor the incoherent participating in this thread, here are the 2 pedigrees of the total of 12 puppies I have produced:

Total pieces of shit, eh? ( I can say "shit" on the board now; Steve already said I'm not a lady, and something much more vulgar than a bitch, so I've been liberated!)

Jenni, Don't let none of this stupidity bother you.  You don't owe anyone any explanation....Some people will never be able to comprehend anything other than what they believe......or be open for other opinions other than their own.....aka narrow or closed minded...

Also staying on topic has no meaning to some when they get an itch to create an argument.....Respect goes right out the equation....

Jenni you and I have no problem.  I understand what you are saying.  I know you are a conscientious breeder.  I don't consider you to be a primarily pet breeder.  Yes, all breeders do have to place pups in pet homes. I just don't think the goal should be a mediocre low drive puppy, just as I don't believe unproven dogs should be bred, because that's not what this breed is about.  If this breed was supposed to be a lawn ornament, I wouldn't have it.  I believe it is to be a working dog with all the drive and hunt and edge  that goes with that.  Puppies shouldn't be bred down just so they can be sold to  every Tom Dick and Harry who is looking for a  no muss no fuss dumbed down  imitation GSD.  Those who are so greedy that they go after that market should be ashamed of themselves.  Not everyone deserves this breed.

I recognize others feel differently, that's the way it goes.   People might not like what I have to say, tough, I don't give a damn.  This is my opinion, and that's the way it is.  Until the day I die I will do everything I can to always steer potential GSD buyers to the people who go to the trouble to do things the way I consider it to be the right way, and will always advise them to run away as fast as they can from those breeders who cut corners.

I know you and I are ok, Sue. I was only directing the first line to you because of what you said about Steve, and while I agree with the principles about breeding animals, I cannot sit back and let him say those things to me about my dogs. When he's proven wrong, he just starts namecalling. That is not productive to the cause on any level.

The rest of my post was general to everyone who questioned the validity of Steve's allegations.

Jenni, OT, but is Capri your dog.  Congratulations if so.

Yes, she is mine, Rik. I feel very fortunate. I waited a very long time to be able to afford a dog like that, and a very long time was spent researching and trying to find the temperament I wanted,  but she was well worth the wait. She's a heck of a nice dog just to hang out with, too.

Jenni,

Capri is one of the most beautiful dogs ever.  Perfect in every way.

Have you had her since a puppy?

Michele
