PL,
No apologies needed.  I understand your point completely and I don't disagree.  If we were to speak in general terms, the overwhelming majority of dogs, sport dogs included would not be effective in a real situation.  However, as I am involved in training and decoying for sport dogs and Police K9's I see both sides.  The sport dogs that I work that can handle pressure get worked more seriously and benefit from it.  The Police dogs are trained differently and are worked "civilly" but also in prey as well.  Prey brings speed and the dogs are taught that any fast moving object is prey.  The dogs are then taught to switch to defense or fight drive, which ever term you prefer to use.  Hopefully, the dog is in the "zone" and locked on.

I think many of us are saying the same thing in different terms or have different ways of explaining similar concepts.

JMO FWIW,

Jim

Don,
Thanks for clarifying that. Maggs already corrected me for a similar mistake with "sight" when I should have used "site."   I appreciate it coming from you.  I'll edit that post and fix it.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, I just thought it was a new technique of using roadkill to work dogs. No biggie! I catch myself doing it all the time. I think the fingers move faster than the brain.

Let's move on to some more good topics, Muzzle fighting/Ground fighting? Start a new thread on the same?

Don,
Most things move faster than my brain, especially my mouth at times.

Pirate's liar, those aren't bad topics, but I think the vast majority here are sport, show and pet people. I think you'd be better off sticking to dog training terms first, so we're all on the same page before we discuss actual training. Maybe "hard" should be next.

Well, I hear "hard" thrown around and misused quite often too.

Don,
We've done the "hard" discussion, some did not get that at all.
