Red Sable

I think that saying a pup has to remain with their mother and litter mates till 8 weeks is a bunch of hogwash.  First of all no puppies or VERY few are even with the mother after 6 weeks.
No law here, thank goodness.

I still have yet to figure out why it is so detrimental?  I've gotten two of my pups at 6 weeks, one earlier as his mother died, and had NO dog aggression problems or any other problems.

I'd much rather have a pup with me learning and socializing than sitting in a kennel.

The pup I got at 5.5 weeks was the best dog I've had to date.

Interesting article PL, in it they even say it can be more detrimental to a pup to be kept with the litter after 7 weeks.

We've had this discussion before, and I'll never agree with the 'till 8 weeks' crowd.  I've always heard from 6-8 weeks, and I agree with that.  Seven being optimal.

I have recently attended a lecture by Dr Maxine Maxwell, behaviourist, and she said that there always only has been a recommendation to leave pups with their mother for 6-8 weeks, because of social development and socialization phase, however developments in individual puppies vary and many puppies are ready by 6 weeks, others only later.

In Missouri, the law is eight weeks. Obviously, it is not enforced. I see many puppies available on craigslist that are younger. Mine go at 8 to 12 weeks.

I believe the Law pertains to shipping pups out of State/Country at a minimum age of 8 wks., not removing them from the bitch for sale locally?

That sounds more of what the LAW  should be about..

That is a  rule here also and the airlines will not ship them..   You know this before you try to ship and the vets all know that is also the rule for shipping a pup....

Always at 8 weeks old.

Yes, there is research that shows puppies learn dog social development from their littermates at ages 6 to 8 weeks of age.   A good thing to know.
