Red Sable

Hans, that doesn't make any sense to me.  I'd consider any dog that  has pure Czech blood a Czech dog, no matter what country it is in.  If you are incorporating WG dog lines in with your Czech dog, even if it was in Czechoslovakia, to me they are not Czech dogs anymore, but a cross of the two bloodlines.

RS, I think I understand what he is saying. Czech + German is always considered a Czech dog to some. Not to bring humans into this, but we see the same thing. What do people say Barack Obama, Halle Berry (sp), Lenny Kravitz, Tiger Woods, etc are? Any time I hear, people say they're black.

German Shepherd is the breed and Czech is a definite "type" within the GSD breed. It is an opinion of what a GSD should be by some of the people that were taught what that type was all about passed down from the originators of that type. DDR was another "type" but as far as I know that type is not being maintained by anyone directly associated with the people who created that type. You could even argue that german working lines are a distinctive type. Personally I don't know why we dont call the dogs we breed American Working Line German Shepherds. We have American Showlines and they are really distinctive. I only use the terms DDR and Czech as a matter of convenience and because everyone else uses them. In fact DDR is a good example. We have people here in the US that advertise lots of 100% DDR dogs. Some of these people dont even have a clue what the old real DDR dogs were like...how could they? They never even saw one much less talked to anyone responsible for breeding them in the old DDR. They read things and saw pretty pictures but no actual knowledge of what the dogs were really like. So tell me how can they produce dogs that are 100% DDR when 1. The DDR has not existed since 1989. 2. The old DDR breed survey rating system is not in place anymore. 3. They never even saw a dog that actually was bred and raised in environment of communist country. and last but not least 4. They are not from east Germany themselves and they do not live in what was once called the DDR. Same applies to Czech.

Hans all I was saying is that the top breeders very seldom use and Czech dogs in their programs, but the Czech breeders use German and Belgium lines all the time to improve the working ability of their dogs. I can get  good police dogs from any where doesn't have to be Czech, Germany or Belgium but the great dogs that can do it all , always seem to be the Belgium German line dogs. I know you love your dogs but when you look at the truly great producers what do you find. As for Fero his legend as a pproducer speaks for itself
