Tagan did great today during our meet and greet session with a small white fluffy Pekingese. We were able to walk up to the stranger and the little dog with him in a down stay, shake hands, carry on a conversation, and then walk all around the park side by side. After our walk we sat down in the shade and talked a little more and the little dog climbed on top of Tagan while he was laying down and relaxing. He just raised up his head and started to lick it on the head. I was so proud. What a great improvement from a couple of weeks ago.

He did so great I decided to give him the ultimate test. When we got home from the park I decided to walk him around the block. Around the block is a trailer park. One of the residents lets his dog aggressive red heeler run loose and her two 5 month old  dog aggressive mix breed puppies run right along side her. She ran at us barking, snarling, and snapping a tail length away from us. So did her pups. I had to tell him to leave it twice as he looked concerned toward them and he listened and we minded our business and walked on by with no interruption. It really made me mad how aggressive those dogs acted towards us. Luckily I knew how to react to the situation and diffuse the other dogs aggression. If I had been a child walking with my new dog, I doubt things would have turned out so great.

On our way home we ran into a yearling pit bull, a snouzer, a rather large mutt, and four barking Boston terriers all running loose. Tagan acted as he should and paid attention to me. I didn't even have to use the shock on the e-collar, only the beep twice in the beginning with the heelers. I did decide to call the police and file a complaint on the heelers for sake of the neighbors children's future dog walks. At this point I don't think I need any help from the professional trainer her tips and the many you tube videos I watched on dog aggression and meeting & greeting did the job. I'm very proud and had to share Tagan and I new founded success.

GOOD JOB TAGAN!  WAY TO GO! I WAS THINKING ABOUT GETTING AN E-COLLAR FOR MY MALE.

I was completely against it in the beginning. Because of his territorial behavior I felt that I needed it as a last result. I did a lot of research and learned how it doesn't have to be the last resort and isn't near as cruel as I thought it was. If you use it properly it can be a safe, rapid, and effective way to train your dog with spectacular results. I love it and Tagan don't seem to mind it at all. It just catches his attention and motivates him very well.

Tell me about it. Yet if I chain my dog up out in the front yard by his self long enough to go get the shampoo I forgot for his bath. I get the cops called on me, because he is a German Shepherd and those are dangerous ooooh!!! One of my other neighbors breeds her unregisterd yorkie every single time it goes into heat. Poor little thing. I drove by earlier to check on the heelers, they were locked up in the fence. We will see how long that last. I usually stay away from the trailor park. Today I just wanted to test Tagan out.

Congratulations! Kudos on dealing with the trailer park owners.

I did a lot of research and learned how it doesn't have to be the last resort and isn't near as cruel as I thought it was.
I do not believe in miracles.......
Not as cruel as you as it would be? So it was only little cruel?
What ever works for you. I do not want to be a party pooper on your success here, but if it is so gentle why doesn't anybody put it on their  children ,...or better on their neck.
Anybody can argue anything and it just depends on the skill of the arguer  to argue properly what sounds convincingly good and what does not.
Thus convincing argument is not necessarily the truth, I am sorry to say.
To make dog respond to an e collar is different from responding to you.
I do not want to start here WW3 of e collar discussion which periodically explodes here,  but there are proper other options which I believe are more sound.
I am not necessarily totally against e collars, but the old fashioned establishment of leadership position through proper +/- obedience is hard to beat. It is not as quick but much more sound  solution to 99% of behaviour problems.

What ever... He is doing good off the e-collar too. I'll will post a video of his cgc test when we get to that point and prove to you that he becomes a therapy dog with in the next 6 months. I'll post a video of that too. He got his tattoo yesterday. This vicious attack dog just layed there with his head in my lap while he got his tattoo and only twitched twitched his ear twice. Thanks for the challenge. I will show you. There is no need to argue.

That's quite a chip on your shoulder you are carrying. Why don't you just let it fall off and maybe listen to someone like Prager who knows just a few things after spending pretty much all his life with dogs.

You just might get to where you are going, doing what you are doing, but there is a chance you could be going much farther.

I'm not trying to ride your a$$, just perhaps help you to open your eyes. JMHO

Enjoy your big puppy, Tagen.

I don't have a chip on my shoulder. I would love to learn from others.  I would listen to prager if he was giving advise. I don't see that as to be what Prager is try to do. Sounds like he has an attitude problem. And wants to try to bash me for some reason.

I don't think children are to be compared to dogs any how. If it is going to be like that. How about putting a choke collar on a kid and see how gentle that is. Mostly we just have to use the beep and vibration any how. I've only had to use the shock a couple of times.
