Just to clear the air because this is turning into a Mod bashing thread...I PM'd GSD Admin and requested they take a look at this thread. I did not like how Jean was being portrayed. Things like this can turn a potential client away from her. Jean did the correct thing. She took care of her client and the dog that came from her kennel. People make mistakes. Not everyone steps up to take care of those mistakes.

Jean,

I didn’t comment on the breeding because I didn’t know the circumstances of this breeding, but in a dog world if you don’t present the facts upfront – I think people will take it against you if they can.

I apologize for my remark about the billboard. As I stated before there is one giant billboard on I5 and I made a mistake to associate it with your kennel if you said it’s not yours. The name and logo looked very similar (ending in K9) and advertising W/L. Since I love GSDs, this add simply caught mine and my husband’s eye. Jaggirl47 said that she’ll be in that area this weekend and look for herself.

This billboard gave an impression of commercial facility. I have never seen a breeder advertize on the billboard before in my life. And speaking of commercial breeding – as I posted before – I have nothing against it. My girl comes from ‘commercial’ breeder who has more than 20 dogs at one time and she is a great dog.

I agree that making money in dogs is difficult (if almost impossible if done right).

Changing the subject back to breeding under aged dogs – year ago I met a guy who had a 2 year old German S/L import and got himself import puppy female (5 months then). When he found out that my girl is intact he suggested that we ‘mate’ them next time she goes into heat to check if his male is OK. surprise He also wanted to know when to expect his puppy female to get into her first heat so he can breed them… His male had no titles or certifications. Talking about breeding underaged and uncertified dogs…   Pretty much as bad as it gets in my eyes, but he already made up his mind. I can bet that his girl had puppies her first season. Pretty sad...

I've heard that if the bitch is bred on the first season, her development (growth) stops. Is that true?

Answer to the last sentence-no. Is it good for them? No, but to say their growth stops is rather ridiculous. Would nature really allow such a thing????

Could the billboard belong to Kraftwerk?

I was thinking the same kennel Jenni. I will look on Saturday and let you guys know.

Really any breeder in a pinch for money can claim a breeding was a result of some a sob story that was no fault of their own, and pass it off as an "oops".  (Not saying specifically anyone on here or mentioned here has done this.)  All that breeder would get off with is a "shit happens" from the Shepherd community.

Honest breeders will have the cajones (o los ovarios) to advertise their litter as an oops.

The problem comes when amateurs look at breeders making good money on their "oops" litter and decide to do the same.

A person in my club was on his 2nd oops litter on a bitch with severe dysplasia and his stud with fair hips.  Neither titled.  Bitch was under 2 on her first litter.  I asked how much he was selling them for, and he said $1200 because thats what other breeders were asking for their oops litters.  Later I met one of this his clients who had no idea the bitch was dysplastic.  I have a feeling the same accident will happen again.

Ethically, should breeders with "underage dogs without hip certs and titles" as their oops litter make a profit off the litter?

Daryl, what can I say to you. Do you honestly believe that you produce dogs on a level with the Bomber tag along.

I have boomped heads with you in the past and this is all I will say to  this communinity.

Bandit is a proven dog from a proven bloodline.

You have not proven anything, neither has your dogs.

Still, I would not want him, even as a freebie.  Did you boomp your head too hard to stay on topic?

Mods
Another new day for me since you replied to my post i put on last night.
Okay you say you cannot be bothered by time zones, But you can at least when you delete a Crucial post which is the main factor to do with a thread is to put POST DELETED in place of the bit you take out
Why i say this is then the people who are coming in, or have not seen the beginning of the thread can then LEAVE that thread well alone. simply because they would not know the true facts and like myself get called out for posting something which another, or others would not like or agree with
NOW' whilst i am going on I can see in the past that this has happened several times with myself and i have been called to task for putting a post in, So i defend myself not knowing that part has been removed before i had seen it, and it escalates out of proportion simply because the start of a thread had been deleted before i knew or had read it. You will know what i mean Just put' part deleted' where you take it off and then we latecomers to a thread can leave the thread  alone, That way peace will reign more on the Forum and i guess that is the general idea of having you Kind Mods doing the job you do.
There is so much misunderstanding caused between us Guys on here by deleting parts and not saying it has been done Thank You

I am for one am not Mod bashing, They are Big men and Women and will have to take a bit of flak now and then
I am simply defending my ground because i have posted on what i read on the very first post i saw on this thread, Not the bit removed, I Never lay down and roll over not in words or in real life, if a battle has to be fought then so be it, however you will know what i mean by that

Jenni78,
I hope you are right. The reason I asked that question is the female Great Dane I know. She is only about 3 years old and she is the smallest purebred Great Dane I’ve ever seen. She came from ‘normal’ parents but was used as a breeding bitch in a puppy mill. By the time she was rescued and adopted she had produced several litters. The new owner was told that her small size is a result of extensive breeding – every season beginning on her first heat. But maybe it was partially a result of being in a puppy mill...
