There are FAR too many crap dogs being bred WITH their titles.  I'm not comparing myself or my dogs with cleverly concealed faults, hyped up trash, overlooked faults, bought off judges, or absurd rule technicalities.  These are the system's failings, and I've chosen not to support that with my hard earned dollars.  MY CHOICE.  It's the nature of the system and won't EVER get fixed, because it's not run in the true interest of the breed, it's run by people who "play" it.

I CHOOSE to not pay for something that doesn't work, that (at times) boasts falsified quality of standards.  That's the problem with any system that allows "subjective opinion" to rule it's functions, it's inherently unfair for all participants and entries evenly across the board .  No doubt, titles are certainly going to be a significant part in the continuance of the German Shepherd Dog legacy, and I'm sure me and my dogs will be long forgotten, because I've broken the ubilical cord and decided to do things MY WAY.

Try to keep it in perspective.  It's not so difficult to just stay out of my way, you know.  It simply doesn't affect you.  Look at the hundreds of ads hosted by this site, and you'll see every form of shameful detriment to this breed is occuring right under your nose, and YOU ARE supporting it by your very presence on this database.  This database in many ways has done more harm to the breed than a dozen Janice Bartmess's could ever do.

I like to think that my input here on many topics has helped bring positive light to the breed.  Maybe not, maybe I've only fueled the fires of destruction.  But, indulge me this one difference in opinion, and just let it be.  Politics do not belong in the breed.  Revamping the system isn't enough, it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.  In some sports, FACTS determine the winners, not opinions.

For example, my parents are very active in Cowboy Mounted Shooting competitions (I'm too old for it, myself).  There's a pattern (sequence) to follow, and laser activated clock that tracks the best time.  NO JUDGE, no one to be schmoozed, or humanly err, difficult to cheat.  Pretty simple.  Sure, weather, equipment and training is still going to affect your overall performance, but it's still a better system.  Because it's free of politics, people that are involved in this sport are truly one big family of sorts, mostly in these western states but reaching all over the U.S.

The way we fight amongst ourselves about the way we think things "ought to be done", that can never happen here.  There are no clear rules governing this breed, not in my eyes.  So, I'll play by my rules.  The most competitive egos, most underhanded salesmen, will ultimately have nothing, unless they learn how to breed  more wisely.

Daryl who are you talking to?  Who is in your way?  I hope you know as far as I'm concerned whatever you choose to do is your business and completely up to you.  I am not and have never spoken to anyone or written anything about your program, not good, not bad and not indifferently.  I am only voicing my opinion about what I look for in a breeder, in general and as a rule, which I don't think should make anyone feel put on the defense about whatever it is they choose  to do, that's not my intention.

it sounds like you are trying to say the system is corrupt and therefore the system is what screwed up the dogs.  I  disagree, I think it's people who maybe color within the lines but don't really know what they're  doing, coupled with people who only want to make money and therefore don't give a shit about health clearances and drives and working ability they only want  to give the appearance of caring about those things and so by any means possible,  coupled with people so kennel blind they don't realize their shit really does stink.   But that doesn't mean that many, many breeders who honor the system aren't breeding great dogs.  Now I'm also not talking about the politics or anything having to do with the show side of things, that's not a kettle of fish I want to stir, it's not my thing and it's not where my interests lie, so I can't go there.

So I wonder if that means you wouldn't follow RSV2000 either because that is also a system of rules including  trials, breed surveys, titles and health clearances?  Do you think there is something inherently wrong or negative with having a system of requirements?   Do you think Helmut Raiser, and the other founders of RSV2000 don't know what they are doing either?

The truth is, you don't have to "believe" in SchH to enjoy yourself and your dogs, and actually learn a lot of great things in the process.  I know I AM better for having participated.  I respected the sport for what it is, but made no disillusions about what it is NOT.  Great dogs (and people) can be found in the system that's in place, and better dogs (not sure of people) yet in higher levels.  But it's the impression of the BE ALL for breeding I dislike, that misinforming impression that "accomplishment" equals ability or genetic potential.  By supporting the system, you're accepting its faults.

I would certainly be an active USCA member again, if it were feasible and a little more convenient than it is for me now.  I need as much as anyone to feel that I'm a part of something, and if that something involves my dogs, then I'm all for it.  Observations I may have disagreed with, I took note of during my years of membership were silently filed away in my mind.  As a newbie, a guest in the house of schutzhund, it would be ingracious of me to not play the game as it was taught to me, having so much to learn even if I do disagree with anything in particular.

I probably would prefer to support the RSV2000, but I haven't followed what's been going on there for a couple years.  I'd just prefer facts not opinons, ability not accomplishments, to really guide this breed in the longterm.  Since I'm a small dog in a big dog world, despise politics ect., better I just stand outside the circle and enjoy my freedom with my dogs the way I want to.

I know the topic has gone very far from original topic but I would like to comment on the breeder whom was mentioned. I am new to Working German Shepherds but have done my best to research as much as possible in the last year to get an idea of what type of dog I wanted. I know you can only research so much everything else comes from experience (as many of you have great amounts of) So I have been following each forum with great interest and learning. I really feel comments as were stated are not helping anyone. I have had dealings with the breeder and was close to purchasing one of her puppies but was looking for a certain type because I want to do french Ring Sport. She was very helpful and knowledgable and I would purchase a puppy from her anytime. Another reason I purchased the puppy from another breeder was that puppies were local so I could meet the dam and breeder which was important to me. Many breeders on this forum have been more than helpful to myself and that includes the breeder mentioned if people want to improve the breed help us new people understand the GS and stop bashing each other. Just the thoughts of an inexperienced newbie

I cant hardly stand reading the crap that people put on this site. You start off with a title like, Lets Breed Underage Dogs without Hip Certs and Titles. And expect it to be a Civilized conversation. The best way for people to feel better about them selves, is to try and focus on what other people are doing. Each and every person who breeds an animal, be it a dog, horse or a cow. is doing it for there own reasons. There will always be good breeders, bad breeders, and some that fit somewhere in the middle. Most people like it or not, will fit very nice in all three categories in there lifetime. The higher you keep your own standards, the more difficult it makes it for the less desirable breeders to keep up with you. All the more reason to try and breed top quality animals to keep the gene pool strong.
