(UK)Gwent Police have issued a PRESS STATEMENT today 17th August 2006. Caroline Townly (wife of Saxon's handler Mike) has issued a RESPONSE. Both can be viewed on: http://www.videxgsd.com/sos__save_our_saxon.htm YOUR HELP HAS KEPT SAXON ALIVE TO-DATE YOUR HELP CAN SAVE SAXON

by MikeRussell on 17 August 2006 - 17:08

I'm sorry and this is going to sound rather rude, but... If even a quarter of the people involved in this whole "Saxon thing" put that much energy into saving dogs that are in shelters in direct, immanent threat of being put down...then there would be a lot less dogs in those shelters. I find it quite upsetting that most people that jump on a bandwagon if there is a lot of publicity wouldn't lift a finger, their voice, or do anything to help those hundreds of thousands of dogs in shelters day in and day out. OK, I'm done now.

MikeRussell, I'm one of those quarter of people whos trying to save the life of K9 Saxon. My petition http://www.petitiononline.com/k9saxon/petition.html and the website page that I've donated to the family of K9 saxon http://www.germanshepherdlitters.com/save_our_saxon.htm. I do put alot of energy into saving dogs that are in shelters, why do you think I always ask people why do they want to breed to a partciular dog? and whats the reasoning? and "Is your dog worth breeding??" Yeah I might sound a bit nosey but so what! This is my breed too! PERFECT example on this message board http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/51886.html My motives for this is to KEEP future dogs from entering into the shelters system whole together. Unfortunatly I cannot help the current dogs that are in shelters because I cannot afford to save all of the dogs that are inside.. I can do the best of what I can do by contuine to tell people to get a dog from a shelter if you want a pet quality dog.. Out of curiosity Mike... what have you done to save dogs that are inside shelters today? you're quick to point the fingers but diclose no sucess story on your part.

Since I'm one of the frequent posters to this thread Mr. Russell, I guess I should respond-- Reality check here. No, you're not sorry and you do sound rather rude. But, that's your choice. So be it. How do you know what these people do in other ways to help and save dogs? As for my interest in trying to save this dog---What's it to you? You don't think this topic is worthwhile--just pass by; but, to make others who genuinely care about the dog feel bad is rather low, to say the least. Saxon is a working dog. I would have hoped someone who knows and cares so much about dogs as you do would have had a different attitude. But, c'est la vie.

Also Mike... I went to your website and found no sight of you helping out any shelter/rescue dogs... what I see is a breeder whos focus ONLY on selling puppies (Note: If you can breed you can rescue!) you sure can talk the talk... can you walk the walk? by the way view my rescue site http://www.germanshepherdlitters.com/rescues.htm I've done SOMETHING! Okay... I'm done now ;)

Funny, I make a general statement and people take it as being aimed directly at them. Guess some people think the world revolves around them? Yes, we have rescued, we have transported, we've taken in dogs off the street and got them back to health, and recommend people look at rescues for pets. Just because you don't brag about it doesn't mean you haven't or don't do it. Keep that in mind before you become so judgemental, Brittany. And btw, we've only bred 2 litters in 6yrs, Britt, unlike some people that you put up on high that breed 6 or more litters a year and also don't have anything about rescue on their sites. My comment was only geared towards how much attention has been put on this one dog worldwide, yet how little (relatively) people promote rescues outside of the rescue circles.

by MikeRussell on 17 August 2006 - 18:08

Also, keep in mind, I did not put down anyone's efforts in any of this, whether regarding Saxon or other dogs needing rescue. I think those efforts need to be applauded. I just was thinking that if shelters got 1/4 of the publicity that this dog has had, imagine how many dogs could be saved.

by LMH on 17 August 2006 - 18:08

Good comeback, Mike. Glad to hear I wrongly interpreted your post, and that you weren't trying to sabotage this campaign. You're a strong voice on this website, especially for the working dog--Would rather have you on Saxon's side.

by Alabamak9 on 18 August 2006 - 15:08

Good job to all of you who have put forth so much effort. I am sure we as dog lovers have all done our share of rescue do not let negative people worry you, especially you Brittany I know you have worked day and night on this effort be proud. Marlene

MikeRussell, I didn't look at your post as a general statement, more like an argument.. This is about K9 SAXON who's at high risk of being destroyed because he's a retired police dog and according to the dingleberries at the Gwent police that Saxon is consider "too" dangerous to continue on with his police career and needs to be put to death, funny how an Ex Kennel maid thinks that Saxon is a softy! http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/search/display.var.880456.0.saxon_is_just_a_softy_exkennel_maid.php A FORMER kennel maid of Saxon, the police dog branded "dangerous", says she would have no problem allowing the animal near her 18-month-old son. Donna McLennan was an animal welfare officer at Gwent Police kennels in Glascoed on a temporary contract in 2004. Saxon is now in danger of being put down after Gwent Police said he was "unsafe to work with". Continued... But Ms McLennan said the dog was a "softy at heart" and that she would have no problem allowing the animal near her son, Camron. * Read the full story in tomorrow's Argus. You've simply hijacked this thread to something that's totally off topic. I actually think that's totally disrespectful for Mike Townley and to his family.. They're busting their asses to get this dog home so Saxon could live out the rest of his life at HOME and not somewhere 6 feet under or cremated for that matters... they don't appreciate somebody like you to complain that they (including us K9 Saxon supporters) should worry more about the animals inside shelters rather then focusing on getting their beloved dog home.
