First off AWDF is not a member of the FCI. FCI has merely accepted an application from the AWDF and they are invited to attend the FCI World Championship. AKC is still the only FCI recognized registry for the United States.

So, in order to qualify for an FCI event, USA dogs must be registered with AKC.

EMTBStephanie,  well it's my understanding that in the US the only recognized registry for GSD's in the states to breed under is AKC.   I have 2 dogs with PINK papers from Germany,  But if I don't register them under AKC blanket,  Any pups from either dog will NOT be recognized as "registerable"

Now it's quite possible I am mistaken and if so I wish somene would speak up and clue me in..

Recognized definition...  To be able to show in AKC and or SV events,  To breed and Register litters in the US.

Now you DO have a valid statement,  to better the breed and financial worth,  AKC continues to raise they're fees but still do not require much for breeding criteria....

hunkering down for the hale of large rocks now being hurled in my direction.

SV/USA dual registration is a long arduous process, but in my opinion, worth it.

yOU GOT IT RIGHT  ECHO;  YOU NO REGISTER YOUR PUP  YOU NO ENTER ANY TRIAL OR EVENT IN THE USA....NO SELL PUPS NO RIGHT TO DO ANYTHING BUT SELL A PUP WITH MARKETING SKILLS ONLY    NO NAME NO KNOW AND NO SALES IN THE END...

JANE STEFENHAGEN TOLD ME ONE DAY,,,EVERYTIME THE DOORBELL RINGS, SHE EXPECTS AKC TO SEND A WARRANT FOR HER ARREST., AS SHE AND AKC GO TOE TO TOE AND ALWAYS HAVE......GERMAN PAPERWORK AND THE FEES THEY CHARGE KEEP YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE IN TOP NUMBERS.....

LIKE JANE SAID TO ME   "THERE IS NOT OTHER DOG REGISTRY IN USA TO GO WITH....HAVE NO OTHER BUT TO REGISTER ALL DOGS THRU THEM..........THAT IS DOGS IN THIS COUTRY......NOT GERMANY.

ECHO; YOU COULD MOVE TO GERMANY AND YOU COULD USE YOUR PINK PAPERS...I HAVE PINK PAPERS ON MARK ALSO....AND A SV #    .........BUT HE IS AKC REGISTERED ,,,,,OR CAN DO NOTHING WITHOUT IT........

Why not ask the FCI who they recognize from the USA.  The FCI only has one breed registry from each country. UScA ain't it, AWDF ain't it, neither is the WDA or GSDCA, its the AKC.  Like it or not folks!  Its the way how it is.  Tomorrow the WUSV can tel UScA that they can no longer send a team, only the WDA. Because of the GSDCA- AKC connection.  It will be interesting to see what  happens after the WUSV '08 event.

Don't forget the hot water the UScA was in when they said they would not recognize tiitles from other organizations even if earned under SV judges! NOW THE RULES AND HISTORY!

I know of the past issue you speak of; however when I say dual registration, I'm not talking about USA/SV in lieu of AKC registration.   As far as what happens after 2008, you are right, it will get interesting.  I wonder if AKC will be required to bring it's GSD standard in line with the FCI standard?  As far as FCI disallowing a UScA team, well sure it could happen, but not very likely.

From UScA:

  •
  • The registration documents from the original registering organization (such as AKC, CKC, etc.) will be stamped by the SV Breed Registry Office, indicating dual USA/SV registration

I can understand why someone would object to the AKC, and might think it would be good to ignore them.  But, what is the harm in registering in the most popular registry here?

As I see it, all you're doing is removing "good" gene pool, and leaving "bad" gene pool in the AKC, which means more of a split.  (This is assuming Euro types are good and American bad, which is arguable once 1 steps away from the hoity-toity show sets.)  I don't see that as good for the breed - believe it or not, there are good dogs in the American lines who can contribute to working the GS back to the way it should be, not the way it's been bastardized all over the world in the high-power high-profile show worlds.
