gimme10mins There are 2 things I use for odors. Not sure one will work because of the size of the crate but vanilla works great in lunch boxes. The other thing I have used is a formular that works well on skunk odor so should work on anything. I take a 16 oz bottle of peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1 tsp. dish detergent. Mix it all together and wipe it in the crate on the walls and floor. Let it dry on its own.

i have no more than 3 loose. unless feeding hurricane or cold snap rotate all between kennels and house. during bad weather or feeding all are crated except faith. she is 16 and has earned the no more crate privilege. for crate odors, natures miracle now has deodorizing crate wipes that work wonders.

We have 4 dogs in the house, two six year old shih tzu's and two GSDs (2 yr. female and 3 yr. male). Everything works out fine and friendly EXCEPT--female shih tzu hates GSDs. Little ones have their own room blocked off by baby gate to the GSDs only because the wee girl hates the big ones, actually attacks them. GSDs don't care one way or the other about the little ones...well maybe those plume tails are a bit interesting, but the little ones are so aggravating it's just not worth it. Big guys stay on their side of the fence!!!LOL. All is peaceful in our house.

23 GSD's inside the house? How big is the house? That's a lot of vacuuming hours there, LOL. Well, as long as the dogs are well taken care of and as long as that guy is happy then that's fine.

I think it's a matter of balance, You have to balance time in and time out, I have 3 kids and a hubby to look after too, a cat and a ferrett that the dogs all show interest in and then leave it when told, Yes the rules in the house and in the yard are strict, I don't tolerate them barking at the fence, digging, and they certainly DO NOT make a mess of my house, yes they're allowed on the couch when invited, and allowed to sleep on various beds, they choose they're peoples. Some of our dogs preffer time with the kids, some of them with me and some with the hubby, But the rules are the same, they are never allowed to chew on furniture, clothing, shoes, and so on, not that they are not available to them they are but they are quickly corrected and always have many many oversize rawhide chews around for them. I don't know honestly I guess we are really lucky all of our dogs get along with the exeption of our Males, though there has never been a serious fight, there was a small sqabble between the juvenile males. But all of our youngsters and our females are loose together. Sometimes we let the whole "herd" ( I call them ) in the house and after a few moments of checking to see where everyone is, they all find a spot and curl up next to somebody and chill. It's nice. :-)

Just told my wife that I wanted 22 more in the house. She suggested that I should make a bed for myself in the kennel.

We have a permanent 3 and a visiting 1.My husband is an OTR trucker and has a ditch dog that travels with him. My guys are house dogs-like others have mentioned, there are house rules that need to be obeyed. I have crates for everyone, even ditch dog. Generally the only times I make them go in there is if someone comes to the house who is not comfortable with big dogs. Mine have a tendency to get very loving to people who come to visit. Some people get a little put off when a 92lb male GSD puts his head in their lap or tries to give them a kiss (go figure???!!!). Occasionally, I get a dog who is passing through (on their way to be re-homed)but that's not all the time. AS for cleaning - well,it's a never ending battle. 23!!!!!!!!!! - I can't even begin to imagine....!!!!!!!!!

I live in a 3 bedroom house with 2 other roommates, I have one GSD living with me part-time, and 3 cats, one roommate has 2 shih-tzus and the other roommate has 2 cats...so thats 3 dogs and 3 cats in the house. My cats either stay in my bedroom or in a large (5x10x6) enclosure in the basement and the other 2 cats stay upstairs. So it doesn't really feel like a lot of animals in the house. But when my GSD is home I have to vacuum every single day, the hair is horrible. I couldn't imagine 23 shedding shepherds in my house...what a nightmare!!! The most I have ever had in my own home or apartment (before I moved in with roommates) was 3 dogs and 6 cats. A breeder I know keeps 5 small dogs (all intact females) and 3 large dogs (all intact males) in the house when they are home....I do have to say it makes you feel safer from intruders! Hardwood and tile floors are a lifesafer...Since having pets, I hate carpet.

by triodegirl on 27 October 2006 - 17:10

Based on a few of the respnses maybe the breeder in question really does have 23 dogs living in his house. While I was talking to him on the phone, though, the doorbell rang and I only heard perhaps 2 or 3 smaller dogs bark. He said those were the Border Collies and that the German Shepherds didn't bark at noises or when people came to the door. Hmmmmmmm....anyone buy that :)
