Two dogs here; that's plenty for me at one time. I'm not a super clean-freak and vacuum maybe every other day, but I can't possibly imagine having 15+ dogs in the house and dealing with that level of mess. Carpet is more of a pain to keep clean than tile or hardwood, but it's a lot safer for energetic pups and young dogs who bounce around the house at 100 mph and also for senior or ailing dogs who have a hard time on slippery surfaces. I have hardwood floors in the body of the house and tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom. I was glad the hardwood floors were mostly covered with area rugs when my late Otto developed DM, and wound up putting runners down in the kitchen so he could go out the back door more easily and in the bathroom where he was fed so his hindquarters didn't keep sliding out from under him while he ate.

I have one female Cattle dog .. and in search of a GSD female in welp. I couldn't think of living with 23 grown dogs ... sounds to me like no sleeping and lots of cooking.

I live with 3--an intact male, an intact female and a spayed female. The male does not mark on anything when Cindy is in heat. He just lays by her crate and pants. In the beginning the girls had a couple of good fights but now they get along good. In the past I have kept up to 10 in the house and never again will I go through that. I am not a neat freak but I cannot stand filth and I do clean every other day. I once worked for a breeder who lived in a condo in a very exclusive area of Dallas (Addison) with over 20 Salukis. Her house was the absolute pits. Everything was chewed on, dog crap all over on parquet floors. The blinds were hanging to the side and chewed on--it was just the absolute pits. This is my first house, I had it built 3 1/2 yrs ago and I want to keep it nice as long as I can. Of course the dogs have done some damage, especially when my male was a pup but had I not used a crate it would have been 100 times worse. And of course a doggy door going into 1/4 acre fenced has really helped a lot.

I guess I've been very lucky with my GSDs. The first one caused a bit of damage to a wooden table leg. Blitz has never destroyed anything. He does have a penchant for buttons and, if I'm not vigilant, he will lie with his head on my lap while quietly removing a button from my shirt. Otherwise he's damned near perfect LOL.

Triodegirl, I don't buy that if the prson has twenty-three (23) dogs in the house. If someone is even at the neighbour's property there is intense barking here. If the telephone rings there is intense howling. I cannot hear what someone is trying to tell me, but I never miss a call! Bob-O

I once had 2 bitches and 9 puppies in my room. It happened when I moved into another city and renting a large room while looking for a more permanent place to live. It took longer than I expected to find the "permanent" place and meanwhile, the 2 pregnant bitches whelped... I had to endure the whining of the puppies for 2 weeks before moving into the permanent house. The puppies are three months old now, all of them (mothers and puppies) live in the yard, although we do allow one puppy to come into the house one at a time.

Four cats, four GSD's, three females, one male. Not all dogs out in the house at the same time. Two of the bitches are bickering so stay seperate. We only have a couple free in the house at any given time. Yards, kennels, crates, couch, lap. They all get their turns in each place. None are left roaming the house if we're not home. We love our cats too much to risk any "accidents". :-) Yes it can be a bit loud at times, like when its' time to feed!

I currently have 18 GSD's in the house. Okay now that I shocked you less clarify it LOL. two females seperated from each other that just had puppies. Turned cold here in the mountains and I have all my females welp in the house and keep them and the pups in the house till they are big enough to go out to the kennels.
