Not sure if anyone is aware of this but I just was send this info.

http://www.wearethecure.org/blood-test-for-canine-cancer

the link below is the lab which offers the screenings.   The test is about $80 charged to your vet.
What  your vet charges depends on your vet.

Test has been available since 2010 however, not until the National Canine Cancer foundation approved them yesterday and the word got out thru their site and FB.  So it is my hope that you will all share this info with your vets, breeders and friends/family, bookmark the links and perhaps start screening preventatively as I am going to start with my aging babies.   IF for example the screening level supports a low level 1 cancer unbeknown to us their owners, its much easier to fight than the dog having cancer in stage 4.   And it will be a lot less expensive to fight it.  And much better chances of eradicating it.
Thanks for sharing!

My vet went onto a vet board and the "other vets" were less enthusiastic about it than a consumer with a dog would be.  It is claimed that it "only" IDs four types of cancer, really ONLY???  Isnt that better than zero?    And that its more useful for screening dogs who appear to be in remission.   I think they are seeing the glass half empty and I see it half full.   IF they discourage testing then what will we know/learn of it.

It was nearly the same response from vets when it came to the Degenerative Myelopathy test when it came out in 08 when I started to test and share the results with them.  I guess its normal for your peers to get the 3rd degree unless they had come up with the research.

It says on the Foundation for Canine Cancer page on the pic of VDI the TK test is not an early detection test but is a good adjunct to assess IF cancer may be present in dogs where there are other signs of the disease.

Well, for me this then CAN be used as a screening tool, EXCEPT that it will only ID the four cancers so far.  Now, if you don't want to make that part of your dogs' protocol.  Feed him healthier foods, don't vaccinate, dont spay or neuter and let him live a true dogs' life.  plenty of exercise and enjoy the company of other dogs ;)  OH,  Give him Omega 3's  (my vet told me Nutramax - amazon has the best price)

so I'm JUST SAYING!!! ;)  I feel if more people start screening, more money will become available for more research for more complete test.   We as consumer drive this market.   Not our vets.
