Shelley, they are all tragic and preventable deaths. But that veterinarian isn't going to show up on you or my doorstep and shoot to kill our dogs on his/her own property for any reason.

You people know how I think by now, I am political and believe in certain rights - when police violate those rights as if they don't exist and get 100% immunity - I have a problem with it.

Some of you people act as if you've never had an old dog. Old dogs do look raggedy. My GSD Zorro had 9 teeth pulled by the time he was 14, he couldn't walk without a wobble, and his fur was grey on 70 % his body, tongue hanging out all the time and I had to blend up his food 3 times a day. He lived to almost 17 years old.

I have my deceased brothers GSD Dugan at the main house who is 16 now and looking raggedy (but not as bad as Zorro) Dugan will prolly live closer to 20 simply because he is RAW fed all his life, Zorro wasn't.

That said, sure people can call the cops whenever and for whatever reason they want - but for the police to take it apon themselves to shoot and kill a dog only because of a complaint - that is ridiculousness.

That Ginger didn't threaten anyone for peats sake.

I am not bashing law enforcement - I am protesting illegal police action. There is a difference.

I think this is classic irony, a journalist's story twisted to suit someone else's agenda and obsession.  Then the journalist gets upset when someone takes their story and publishes it without checking out the facts or posting the link to click just to sensationalize the event here.

Ladyjarhead,   If you happen to stay around for dog related training advice, good luck.  Before you implement any suggestions given;  absolutely check the sources.  It is similar to believing everything you read in the  news paper, online, or see on TV.

Remember, it's only ok for farmers and hunters to kill loose dogs.  Keep in mind some of our PDB members have killed dogs and have bragged about it.

WOW Jim.

I knew you would show up. Hey, I miss you. I honestly do.

Kinda, the dog would have to actually kill or be in the action of killing livestock. Not just chasing.

Dogs chasing white tail deer can be shot on sight. If I'm not mistaken.

Im not sure why this story is posted. BE4U it was their property why would you care unless they where under duress to shoot the dog. If the officer threaten to write them up for animal abuse or we put it down right now, perhaps then we have a story.

Slamdunc I think using the term journalist here, you are being very kind. Maybe someday but certainly not with this article.

One question. How does a sick dog, dying any minute, suffering like crazy needing to be shot at this moment in the middle of the night, in someones house.... last 10 minutes from a point blank gun shot wound.

The reports of this sickly, severely emaciated, distressed, poor suffering creature maybe a bit exaggerated.

And imagine, a facebook story is a fact. Hell, I see some pretty amazing people on Facebook. A story quoted from a Facebook page should NEVER be stated as a fact. Not when grandstanding a headline like that, only crime was being old. Yeah, there are enough factual cases that prefabricated ones need not exist. It is a sad fact too many animals die through unfortunate situations. It's a pretty sad commentary on the writer trying to be paid without personally verifying the FACTS.

Or, you could be clever like one of the PDB regulars from Texas.  This person / now also a breeder bought chickens so they could shoot the neighbors dogs when they came on their property.  Sure enough the neighbors dogs came on the property and were killed to "protect" the chickens the poster had just purchased the day before for that sole reason.  When the police arrived the proud poster / breeder explained that loose dogs could be killed to "protect" her chickens.   She was very impressed with herself and the way she explained the code to the responding officers.

I am willing to be that Baby Eagle does not personally know of one dog that has ever been shot by the Police.  I am willing to be that none of her or her nieghbors dogs have ever been shot by the Police. I am willing to bet my paycheck that she knows several friends, farmers, hunters or race track folks that have shot dogs and make no bones about it.

What you are describing is a crime. I hope you reported it and proper action was taking. Did you report the crime???
