Every pup is different, and not everyone trains alike...but here is what I did with my pup....for those new or unfamiliar with the sport I thought it might be interesting for them to see one pups progression in bitework.

I was a little apprehensive at first.  I generally don't like to see owners doing the helper work for their own dog(s)...bite development is fine but anything beyond playing tug with various objects in play introduces conflict to the dog.  The best case scenario, in my opinion, would have been for you to have introduced her to your helper from the beginning.  That notwithstanding, she's looking great now!  Nice pup!

Thanks, I agree Keith....normally I would recommend against it as well.  But with the circumstances surrounding the training and availability to good experienced Schutzhund helpers... and the particular pup.  I was more confident in my abilities over my greener (readily available helpers)..... for better or worse, this is the route I decided to take.  I admit I have to force myself to stop now that she's on the sleeve...she's a fun dog to catch.

Oh, I hear you, GSDfan; it's a lot different here than it is in Germany where there is a club and permanent training ground in almost every other town.  I think she's coming along nicely!  Good luck with her.

I have nothing to say but it is good job done and good training and good pup. Happy training, nice video there. Thanks for the effort as it is not easy to watch a video that shows the first year development let alone the effort to make one.

Thanks Scenic....

And just to make it clear...the helpers at the end of the video are my excellent helpers I prepped her for until I was able to train with them on a regular basis.  I am training a few helpers within my training group which were the greener helpers I was referring to. ;-)

NICE !  She's going to be one 'bombproof' dog.

Melanie,
Very nice job and a really nice pup.  I really enjoyed the video, thanks for posting it.  I think it's great you were able to do the foundation work with your dog and you had an excellent handler working with you.Wink Smile  You work with some really talented people as well.

You have a lot of experience decoying and are certainly more than capable of bringing along a young dog.  I will probably do the same thing with my next pup, starting the foundation work until it is time to bring in a decoy and start pushing the dog.

Thanks alot Jim....my daughter has been a good student, she recieves constructive critisism well and tries hard.  Unfortunately her soccer and swim team activities have interfered alot lately with handling the pup full time...but just glad she's interested in my hobby and jumps in when she is available lol.
