If your paying fee's and or living under mandates, it is because of idiots giving money to these organizations like the HSUS that allows them to lobby against your freedoms.
Lets pass another law, wasn't that fun.
People who do not take responsibility for themselves or their animals won't do any better under threat of law, they'll just try harder to get away with it and burden everyone else with the cost of that behavior.

Yeah I have bunch of  " business wise" worthless dogs here too.  I call them gingerly  T.O.U.s -"The old and ugly". There is nothing better to have around  then an old dog who "gets it" .

Kendall County Illinois per dog per rabies certificate fees are $25 for 3 year neutered and $55 for 3 year intact.. I didn't know there was an additional $150 on top of the already added $30 for intact.

For me the buyer is responsible for the dog. He didn´t buy a doll, but an animal.
As long as breeders say "No problem, I´ll take the dog back whenever there are any problems" people will go the easy way, out of any responsibilty - no bad feelings involved...
Don´t misunderstand, every responsible breeder should take a dog back he bred, but he shouldn´t "advertise" it.
The new owner ( !!! ) bought a living creature, and he is responsible for this dog, cat, bird, as soon as it leaves the breeders kennel.
Every dog should be microchipped before it leaves the breeder, changes of ownership should be recorded.
If the owner chooses to dump his "beloved" pet at a shelter, he should PAY for the costs.
People need to learn some responsibility.

Wasn't speaking of Kendall county. I haven't lived in Kendall county very long.

There is a $50 or $55 additional intact fee ABOVE THE REGULAR TAG FEES AND CITY FEES in the county I lived in the past few years. With all the fees and including the vet visit, Caleb's last rabies shot visit was insane! If I remember right, it was like $175....vet visit, tag fee, intact fee, actual shot, administration of shot, blah blah blah. He probably had a heartworm snap test done, too, so take maybe 20-30 off of that. Still  nuts for a couple dollar vaccine.

Totally agree with Susie, except if a breeder doesn't advertise that they will take a dog back, the kinds of people who dump their dogs are the types to not even inform the breeder. That's a nightmare to even think about what could happen to a dog if unscrupulous people had it and didn't want it any longer. I'd never want to live with knowing one of mine was PTS or worse because they didn't know I would take it back. BUYERS HAVE THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY. They need to lose this "disposable" mentality that they have with their dogs. It's disgusting.

Susie, when the owner is irresponsible, I want it made clear, right from the git-go;I WILL ALWAYS TAKE MY DOG BACK. No excuse for the dog to pay the price for my bad choice.
That is not something you have to look for "in the fine print".
Sometimes the unexpected does happen to otherwise good people.
I don't believe most people that buy a dog do so with the fore-thought, If this don't work out, I can always just dump my dog off at the pound".
I am sure some of those dogs in the shelters have been rejected by their breeder, prior to finding their way to the pound.
Around here, it cost money to surrender your dog to shelter. If breeder states bring him back, I WILL take him back, buyers would bring it back, over paying surrender fee.

My mentor did not give a written guarantee to take back & rehome
any dog of her breeding, nor warranties re hips etc.  But she DID
give a signed-by-both-parties contract that said "Any problems or
if for any reason I can't keep the dog, I will contact the breeder first";
cos then she would know and could help, by taking the dog back or
talking the owner through alternatives or helping with rehoming
somewhere else.

We still had buyers who put their dog on rescue without contacting
her.  Go figure.

For the owner it´s much easier to bring a dog back to the breeder than to bring it to the shelter.
It´s a kind of moral thing, but a dog ( like a child ) isn´t always easy to live with.
Bringing to the breeder is like "bringing home" - the owner doesn´t need to feel bad...
Great difference, if I have to bring the dog to the shelter, I may get a bad conscience, I don´t want to see or hear my desperate dog trying to follow me...
maybe I rethink my decision, and ask for help, start to train my working line male instead of dumping it...
A dog´s lifetime is around 10-15 years, everybody who wants to buy a pet should be aware of this.

Once again: Don´t misunderstand, every responsible breeder should take a dog back he bred, but he shouldn´t "advertise" it.

I´m for microchipping, the owner´s responsibility for every single dime the help for HIS dog costs, and education, education, education.

Forgot to say - I´m NO breeder, never have been...
