While browsing through the CL ads I came across this starving mom dog and was horrified by her condition. Is there anyone close to where this dog is that would be willing to drive and see her in person? The people are selling the puppies and she looks like she is on her last breath. Here is the link http://visalia.craigslist.org/pet/3591734542.html

That's horrible!
She must be a really good mom, because the pups look very well-fed and by the looks of things you can't blame the owners for that!  Angry Smile

The phone number and location (Terra Bella) indicate the dog is in the Fresno area of California.

Curious as to why the supposed father of the pups looks to be in such better shape. I wonder if it would be possible to contact animal care and control to have her and the pups taken away. The ad doesn't state anything about selling the mom so the owners might not even let just anyone take her.

Man,that is a disgusting shame. There is NO kind of excise for a dog to look like that, puppies or not.
That person needs to be charged, and they have the nerve to post her pic, sell her pups and put money from her in their pocket!

I texted the people and asked them to feed her more as she was in bad shape. No response to that. I then contacted someone who works for a big rescue that i use  to get a dog out. She said that unless there was no food/water/shelter, AC probably wont do much. Its the same here AC is not very helpful in these situations. But she did say that she would call AC and they can at least go out if I cant find anyone here to check out the dog (guess that will be the case)

I usually dont confront owners about their dogs but when I saw the ad, I just couldnt let this one go

My heart to momma dog.

I looked at the ad.  If I read it correctly, the puppies are only a month old.  If this is the case, could it be more of the owners feeding mom and not paying attention that the puppies are eating the food?  This is still no excuse for the owners, they need to pay closer attention or they will loose mom. (I also do not agree with removing pups from mom at 1 month, but that is IMO.)

I am thinking more along the lines of rather than a confrontation with the owners, maybe someone could approach them with "education" for the owners on how to transition the pups to solid foods and how to take care of mom during the transition.  As someone else noted, sire and pups look healthy, so maybe it is a matter of education.

I say all of this, because Rose looked that bad within 72 hours of her getting sick right after whelping.  We were battling getting her to eat and still take care of the puppies.  For a nursing mom, things can look real horrible in a short time.  (I am very pleased to say that Rose is a health 58.5 lbs this morning and looks great.)

Which rescue was it that got involved with the case in CA with the vet tech that was starving her male GSD?  The OWNERS of this dog are the ones who posted her picture, which CLEARLY shows an emaciated dog--not just thin, but actually emaciated to point of being cachexic [her body is burning muscle mass for fuel, having used any shred of fat already and not receiving sufficient nutrition to sustain her].  THAT is evident to an experienced eye just from the photo.  This needs to be jumped on by a pro-active rescue group who pushes the local law enforcement and animal control to get this bitch out of this situation immediately, because she's not going to last much longer in this condition. Newspaper and television publicity will also help drive the actions.

fawndallas, no, honey, Rose didn't really look that bad after she fell sick--she looked that bad to you, because you're an observant and caring owner who would never permit your dog to become this decrepit without seeking veterinary intervention for her...THIS did not happen overnight; it takes a significant amount of time for a body to start breaking down muscle mass for fuel, and that's where the dog in this picture is presently.  I truly do fear for her life.

Ok.  I texted the "breeders" (gaging and choking on word) with the pretense to buy a pup, trying to get more information.  No response yet.  If I get anything useful, I will post.  I hope someone can go get her.

If transit help is needed, I can help pass her through Texas.
