Blitzen, I would have no problem with starting a new thread on this but because pyo can happen to any bitch and I do not know how it is prevented while pregnant except spaying before hand. All I can say is be aware this can happen at anytime. I and my vet never heard of this happening to a pregnant bitch that was so far into the pregnancy and the people I know never did either. Jetta showed no signs of any problems until she started to have a discharge 5 1/2 weeks into her pregnancy. Heck a week before this the ultrasound showed 6 healthy heart beats. So if some one else had this problem maybe we can share some info.

German SV rules: The bitch has to be at least 20 months old companion dog ( BH ) long distance trial ( 20 km ) at least SchH1 ( or HGH ) titled HD not worse than "a" noch zugelassen A3 ED allowed DNA proofed conformation rating good or better breed survey 1 or 2 Same rules for males, but they have to be 2 years old. I don¿t want to discuss about drives and temperament, but a German Shepherd, that is not able to reach these goals, is not woth breeding it. the German breeder don¿t even think about it, they do it! Why can¿t you wait, until the WORK is done?

Susie, Sorry to say but the germans do breed bitches for the first time w/o titles. Like I said before they don't want to put all the training needed if a bitch cannot produce. Also, there are ALOT of GSD's out there that are titled and should NEVER be bred. Both females and males

A bitch without these titles can¿t get pink pedigrees, only the breed survey may be done later within a certain amount of time. German Shepherd puppies without pedigrees are worthless, why should any breeder do so? I¿m German SV member for 26 years now, and I NEVER saw a breeder doing somewhat ridiculous besides accident( bad enough ). Kind regards from Germany

Litters from one or both parents that are untitled cannot be registered in Germany. The litter can be registered if one or both parents are not breed surveyed (they must still have G in conformation, Schh1 at least, hip rating NZ or better) - but not pink papered - the papers are green or white instead - but still registered without parents being breed surveyed. But no titles = no registration. I agree, why would any breeder, in any country, want unregistered puppies? Doesn't make sense to me - not worth a "test" breeding IMO. molly

Sorry, me again- I¿m a littlebit angry right now - I need to explain - "Worthless" not because the breeder doesn¿t get money for the puppies, but because these puppies are absolutely worthless for any breeding programm. Even the best looking or working dog out of a litter without pedigrees can¿t be used for breeding in the future, because none of their pups will get any pedigrees - And I forgot to explain - a German breeder who knowingly breeds without these requirements will be banned from SV, and all of this doesn¿t make sense, does it?

Susie, Thank you so much for coming on here and explaining the requirments needed before ANYONE should even consider breeding their dogs. Betterment of the breed PERIOD. Not because we need more SAR or 4-H dogs AND there is NO excuse for not obtaining these titles before ever throwing two dogs in together just for a litter of puppies. I know a lot of members of this site do follow the requirements, I don't see many of these people around here lately and I'm surprised that there are only a few responsible breeders who even responded to this subject. I was expecting more. It's not a surprise that a lot of blow hards like (EchoMeadoes) who think they know it all and breed for their own personal reasons (money) and not the betterment of the breed have been infiltrating the database as of recent. Thanks again Susie for the education. Mel
