Zdog, you are absolutely right.

This female might be a good pet, maybe she even did well in a club trial trained and handled by a person she trusted, but she shouldn´t been bred.
There are a lot of dogs out there ( show AND workinglines ) who do well in their " security zone " but fall apart outside of this zone.
That´s the reason why people ALWAYS should take a look at the dog, not only at results or videoclips.

In this special case I really feel bad for this female - she deserves better, and right now she is in a situation not good at all for her.
A lot of dogs are not breedworthy, but this doesn´t mean they are bad dogs.

Sorry, little girl, you surely don´t deserve this, I feel sad...

I don't think anyone was making excuses for the temperament displayed from a breed worthiness aspect?  I think it was more with a little TLC and an environment
more suited to her, she could make a loving pet.

At least that was my take.

I take responsibility for the error on the age. A 2007 birthdate is definitely a 6 year old, not an 8 year old.  The combination of insomnia and cold medicine clearly screwed with my basic math skills this morning--this bitch is 6, and the imported male the seller replaced her with is a 5 year old, not a 7 year old.

I just hope this works out for this poor dog, and she finds a home as a pet where she's appreciated and loved and can spend the rest of her life learning not to be afraid.

It's not a big deal, Hexe. Wine does it to me LOL.

Just one more sad GSD story.

Agreed, Betty.  I'm not saying Molly wasn't scammed but I also don't like to see a dog that clearly has issues in a cement run with days worth of feces surrounded by all the other dogs barking.  If she were mine, I'd try indoors or in a larger kennel with or next to a more confident dog and away from all the other yapping.

I am one that said bring her inside because I do have experience with a dog that was very much like this one.  She was still a little weird even indoors if there was more than me home (she kind of had a "den" under a large desk and would stay under there if she felt overwhelmed, but everyone knew that was HER space), but in a kennel my dog would fall apart immediately and actually get worse the longer left in the kennel.  There was no kenneling her for a month or more and expecting her to get over it.  She would act like the dog in this video and also spin neurotically and/or chew herself raw.  If she was startled good enough, she might even eliminate spontaneously.  Again no one is saying dogs like this are worth X-amount of money or could be titled and bred, just saying that it is what it is.  Obviously the kennel is NOT working.  I'm just saying, in my experience having owned a dog with a a temperament like this, she was a different dog when allowed to be with me in the house.  I put 12 titles on her in about 2 years, not bad for a nutjob of a dog.  She was just a dog that didn't blindly trust anyone with a ball or a food pouch, there had to be a real relationship there (she only worked for praise) and if I was frustrated, she definitely knew it.

OK OK....

Since none of you posting know anything about what is going on...let me explain!

Molly bought this dog from Christina Davis. Christina bred the dog and was in way over her head when she could not sell the puppies, and wanted to get out of breeding (so is her story). Molly met Christina and picked up the dog. The dog was taken out on a leash, seemed a bit shy, but nothing crazy was exhibited. Gritt, according to her paperwork is a ScH 2!! Maybe she wouldn't be the best working dog anyone has ever seen, but you sure wouldn't think she would be feral for being SchH 2!!!!

Molly has explained to me, that the dog is completely different when being walked on a leash. Molly has hand fed, groomed, and spent all kinds of time trying to get the dog to adapt to her and the new environment. No good temperamented dog would act like this after one month. When being walked on a leash the dog seems calm, but getting a leash on her is the tricky part. She is acting completely feral. Shying away from everyone, etc. Not only in the kennel either. In the exercise yard, away from the kennel! And you would think that after one month, the dog would at least allow people to approach her?!?

Yes, Molly, and everyone else feels badly for the dog-- except the woman who sold Molly this dog. Christina Davis knew Molly would be using this female for breeding, yet she sold this dog with a faulty temperament anyway. And now she refuses to make it right by taking the dog back and refunding money. Any good breeder with proper ethics would NEVER breed this dog in the first place! Molly, purchased a SchH2 dog, this dog is NOT what it is supposed to be! If Christina cared at all for the dog that she just sold, she would take it back and refund the money. Obviously the dog is not living a great quality of life, and if Christina Davis says that this dog did not act like this in her home, do right by the dog, and take it back!

If you bought a car that had statement papers that said it went 200 mph, then when you took it home and it only went 50 mph, you would want your money back as well!

Why is everyone so uppity about some poop in the outdoor area of the kennel?  Have you guys never seen some poop before? It happens, it gets cleaned up. The dog is not laying in puddles and piles of fecal matter. Sometimes dogs have accidents in kennels that we don't see right away...sorry everyone else picks up poop the second it comes out of the dogs ass.

Molly is not a newbie to rehabbing dogs. She has been rescuing dogs for years. I am sure she knows what this dog needs, and she has been exhausting efforts...but the point is this...Molly did not get what she paid for...or what was advertised for that matter! The video was made to bring Christina Davis' name to the public, not to get training advice on what to do with the dog.

Who is this person that created a username, posted once to share this drama?  I think it is truley SAD!!! that  the dog is being punished, for nothing she did,  in this whole fiasco.  She is being held hostage and every hour of her life is obviously stressful because of greed.
Christina doesn't want to get out of breeding...probably just out of breeding this dog.I hope she is spayed and the offer to help her is taken up and she can live a halfway normal existence.

Here is an ad I just came across on a fb stud page , and I'm sure there are others.

She had a potential brood bitch on a leash and that's it??  Maybe its just me but if I was buying a dog for breeding I would want to see it under pressure on a sleeve, walking around in multiple environments on multiple surfaces etc. This is what happens when people breed what is supposed to be a working dog when they have no knowledge of what the work is and what they are looking at.  She clearly doesnt work her own dogs if she was just willing to buy without seeing the dog work. People like this produce low drive, nerve bag embarrassments to the breed, then blame the dogs.  Imo if you don't work your dogs you don't know squat about them, go breed Pomeranians and leave the working dogs to the pros even if it is a SL.

In complete agreement with Z Dog, the dog is weak period.  Plenty of dogs have come through worse then that without displaying that type of behavior, definitely not a breeding prospect..some of the comments on here make me worried that others might thing with a different upbringing she would be.  I vehemently oppose that.

by Betty on 09 September 2013 - 02:09

Amanda, If Molly picked up  the dog she had a chance to evaluate her.  Apparently she did not see any behavior that concerned her until the girl was thrown in a kennel. Perhaps that prior owner did not see the behavior
because of a different environment.

As you pointed out Molly is not a newbie to dogs.  If she did not see anything that concerned her why is it expected that someone newer to dogs would?

Molly is the expert here.  Or should be.

never buy a dog whitout solid contract and refund/return clause in it, further why buy a dog for the purpose of breeding if in the pedigree certain dog's are marked who aren't very well known for producing mentally strong dog's/healthy dogs if she didn't saw the dog before buying yes then she got screwed, if she went over to see the dog and she agreed on the purchase then fault is totally on her side and she really has to consider if she sets the right standards to evaluate a dog or if she gets to emotional/can"t see past the confirmationpart of the dog.
amanda you said the dog was acting shy on leasch, well BIG red flag there, never buy or breed a shy dog! even when it's only a little shy!!!
it took me 2 phone calls to get info about the breeder of this female and other dog's out of those lines so when buying a dog for 3500 i don't think 2 phone calls are considerd expencive costs even from the states to europe
and after the calls i really question "a little shy"!!!!!
