ROFL, I actually find this a bit Ironic... SchH3 = breed it, or so a few of you say. But I say, Temperaments are "ONE" of our main focuses and get lambasted for it. Look at this guy/gal Breed Warden, certainly an expert at evaluating temperaments right ??? leaves the dog off leash so it attacks a little dog, and honestly can you all say this person did not know that this dog would have such a tendancy ?? A breed warden that does NOT know a dogs temperament. come on you all know this person knew better than to pull a stupid stunt like this. I have read this thread 10x's over and still can't put it all together, But honestly I am laughing like hell here, because all of the self richeous "ONLY breed schH3 KKL" dogs blah blah blah come here and then agree that the breed is in a "sad state of affairs" But lets remember, Only SchH 3 and KKL should be bred forget the temperaments, forget the "family structure" and "NORMAL" "IDEAL" for the GSD, lets go with the new thing. ROFL You all are hilarious.

still laughing, But wanted to say I think we will stick with our plan of breeding "SOUND" dogs and "SOLID" Temperaments. Sch may not be around long enough to plan on Titles anymore. I hope that's not the case but, WOW, with publicity like this not sure I want to "count on it" Oh and who to thank but no less than a Breed Warden The thing that would really tick me off is if this person makes it all go away I will not have to opportunity to prove spook wrong. Da**it !

I feel the same way as Spook101. I fear that stupid decisions made like the incident at Pet Smart will result in ludicrous laws against our breed. In September, I took my then 7 month old shepherd puppy to Rita's Water Ice with a friend and her 9 month old shepherd puppy. My pup has been socialized since the day I got her and is around children, dogs, etc. and by no means has ever shown any signs of aggression. We were standing in line behind a family including the husband, wife and two children about 6 and 8 years old. I always keep my dogs back when in crowds just in case someone is allergic or is afraid of dogs. The wife turned around and commented on how beautiful the pups were and asked if she and her son could pet them. I said sure and knelt down beside Molly (my pup)and started telling the boy how to approach and pet her. Before I could stop him he waived his straw in front of her face and she jumped up and tried to grab the straw. She did not get the straw nor did she bite the boy, but he started screaming that the dog bit him. The husband turned around and started screaming at me that my dog bit his son. I explained to him that she did not bite him and that she is only a pup. He was freaking out, wanted to call the police etc. Luckily his wife was a sane woman and told him what had happened and that their son was not biten. He then turned on his wife and started screaming at her how she put their son in danger with an aggressive dog. She finally turned to me and said how her husband was bitten by a dog when he was young and apparently he still has issues. I am afraid what would have happened if the wife was not so level headed. I have heard of dogs getting a strike against them for jumping on someone and scratching them and the people filing a complaint that it was a bite. How are we to socialize our dogs properly and to teach them to co-exist with children if our dogs are banned from places where kids hang out like parks and football fields etc. I was banned from bringing one of my pups to a peewee football game because it was a shepherd, although I saw a not too well behaved cocker spaniel next to the field. Again, these rules are made because of a few poor excuse for dog owners and the majority pays the price.

Echo, Your continued trying to justify what you are doing gets you no where. But I understand that you do not get it and never will. Are there dogs who are titled who have poor temperaments? Of course, and that should stop. But so many people in the sport do overlook aggression, especially with other dogs, especially if the dog has some of the more extreme drives brought out in protection work. Do I think it is right that aggressive dogs are not weeded out of the sport? I think they should be, but I will never prevail. None the less, you do not have an ounce of sense or knowledge compared to someone like Gustav and some of the others, even those who do not feel a title is the "end all, be all". Gustav does not need your approval. As for your ethics, I find it amusing how you tout your dogs but, in fact, your own web site says things like your daughter WANTS to do therapy with a pup. A deputy WANTS to get involved in K-9 etc. Sort of disingenuous at the very least. Wanting is not the same as doing, but then you know that since you spend countless hours writing posts but do not have the time to find out from others whether your dogs meet the standard. They might, but it is not about the people you play with telling you that, or your own estimation, regardless of working in a shelter. As for breed wardens, and show judges in this country, there are VERY, VERY few who have the knowledge and experience that SHOULD be required and actually IS required of such a position within Germany. We simply do not have the history here and our positions are elected and filled more often than not with people who know little or nothing about the position, about structure etc etc. I can not speak to this alledged incident which supposedly happened at Petsmart with a dog and owner supposedly someone well known on this and other boards. I was not there and this is the first I have heard of it. But if it did occur, yes, then it should be brought to the attention of the organizations that person belongs to, in addition to the criminal or civil charges that might be brought. People who are irresponsible with their dog, regardless of what organization, if any, hurt the breeds, the sports they participate in and the organizations. In my club I require people to sign a document and part of that document is a statement that they agree that their dog will NEVER be off leash in public. A GSD or any other dog for that matter, has no place being left off leash in a store filled with other people and their dogs. And, as animules says, there are so many idiots with poorly behaved dogs there one is simply asking for trouble. Secondly, places like Petsmart make it much more likely a dog will pick up diseases or parasites. How often have you seen anyone other than some teenager in these stores? And how often have you seen anyone disinfecting anything? Further, it simply is impossible to disinfect anyway in such a situation. But Echo, laugh away. Because anyone who has looked at your web site and read your comments is also laughing. But you don't get it.

I's absolutely amazing how one pinhead can jump on this and try to use it to justify backyard breeding practices. This is why we are in so much trouble. People like this just don't get it and honestly I don't think they ever will.

Hodie, prosecute me all you want. My daughter is now with the Delta Society for her therapy dog but has not yet taken the certification so I felt it was appropriate to put it that way on the web site, Hell I could have lied I guess, but you know that's just not my style sorry to dissapoint you, The dog in K-9 training is still too young to certify but she's working on it and as soon as she is old enough to get it done she will. simple as that, so again I felt it was appropriate to state it in that manner on the website. Another one is working on detection certification for several narcotics, how would I appropriately word that on our website so that you approve ?? Please do tell, These are young dogs, We have been breeding less than 2 years, What the hell do you want me to say about our dogs who are young and working toward these certificates and titles ? Please Please do enlighten. Ohhh and the ones working toward BH and then SchH 1 titles how do I put that on the site in a manner that you will approve ? As far as this breed warden thing goes, HELL Yes it's funny as hell to me that you all think that titles and this and that standard are to be met at all costs and that only "these people" can tell you if your dog is or is not "breed worthy" Obviously "these People" don't have a freaking clue or this incident would have NEVER happened, why would I care to listen to someone who is so brain dead as to do something so stupid like the petsmart incident ?? Please Please do tell why I should listen to someone like that ? Gawd what a bunch of hipocrites !!!

Renofan2, I have heard of dogs getting a strike against them for jumping on someone and scratching them and the people filing a complaint that it was a bite. You are so right, when I was little we were playing in the front yard running thru the sprinklers with our Great Dane, one of the neighbor kids watching on the sidewalk, the Dane went over to greet, Kid started to run, Dane gave chase and jumped up and the kid received sidewalk abbrasions. My Mom immediately put all of us in a car and took us out of the county, and called my Dad at work and told him what hotel, he went back that night to get some things for us. They took him to jail, he tried to tell the police, my Wife is not giving up the dog for him. They fianlly made a deal for quarantine at a hotel, after a night in jail for my Dad.

Your right spook, leave it to the breedwardens to screw it up. Maybe the byb's can clean it up ? with dogs of Excellent temperament of course. Oh wait, the breed wardens' dog has a SchH3, What am I thinking... duhhh Here's your sign !! just because I have not YET titled a dog does not mean I am a byb, But if I am then I am and who gives 2 shits ? My dog is not the one with titles out the wazooooo attacking other dogs Terrifying people

by 1doggie2 on 14 January 2007 - 19:01

I take my dogs to petsmart, leashed at all times. I am very careful it is a confined area in the isles and they may not feel they have the choice of flight. So they get to see other dogs but I do not allow any greetings. I do allow them to be petted.

by EchoMeadows on 14 January 2007 - 19:01

1doggie2, Then you would be in my opinion a "Responsible" owner !! However on this board you'll likely be called a back yard breeder blah blah blah. Not from me mind you :-) But a breed warden that does something so nimwhitted, gets the all mighty "good breeder" award of the year from hodie and spook , Cause hey the dog is titled !!
