I would like someone to explain the reasoning in males needing to be SCH3 without being criticized for breeding and FEMALES more times than not only have minimum titles for breeding. In particular in that the female has a greater influence on the puppies,it wouls seem to me that they should be maximally titled if the the real love/strength of the breed is to be continued. Also, the females at the Seiger Show that will not engage the helper or comes off with stick hits; are people irresponsible if they breed these bitches? I understand the piece about the period of time a bitch has to breed but that doesn't improve the breed does it?

From what I understand is that it comes down to that green paper we call money. I myself would purchase a pup that both the dam and sire are SchH3 way before purchasing a pup from a litter where only the Sire is SchH3. I think I would even be willing to pay a little more as well if both are SchH3. Maybe Im still very ignorant, but I would say it seems to be a safer bet, as in more of a possibility for working ability if both parents are SchH3. I think that would also bug me later on down the road with the question in my head of, "Why was the dam titled to SchH3? Was she flawed? Was this flaw genetic?".

Ok.. Buying a Pup from parents that have SCHH3 looks attractive yes.. But a very average dog can attain SCHH3.. What we are supposed to do when looking for a working puppy or even a showline dog to be able to work. Some breeders may not have the time with owning so many dogs.. But i personally always like to see the working ability of any dog even with SCHH3 we have to look further and beyond whats on the paper... Thanks..

There are many reasons that you see this. First you must realize the impact a breeding has on both the sire and dam. In the sire's case his training is delayed about thirty min. (if the bitch is lucky). Meanwhile the dam's training is delayed 4 months (2 in whelp, 2 until the pups are sold). Secondly, people who are looking to do well in the sport always select a male. The people who get a female are either looking to breed, new to the sport, or looking for a pet. Even with the best female, one of her brothers is better. Before all the feminist get up in arms, tell me how many females have won the BSP, WUSV? Third, if you got the female to breed why waste all that time titling? Get her SchH1 and KKL and use her for what she was intended. Finally, the owner of a bitch has his choice of studs; therefore the owner of a male must prove his dog to be breed-worthy.

I agree with Zahnburg. Too much valuable time is wasted when trying to get a female the SchH 3 title. If you look at the pedigree and learn what the bloodlines are that make up the pedigree of the dog then you can have an idea as to what you are getting in a dog. Another good example, seldom do you see a female used in police work in the US or Germany and it is for the reason that a female is softer however, when it comes to the family she protects in a much stronger way. If you think about it usually it is the male being the more dominate in competition regardless of what kind of animal it is.

this also aludes to something i have wondered about for some time. why do we put some much emphasize(not sure about the spelling) on the males and not the females. my last pup came from a schutzhund one bitch. lucky for me i know the breeder. the mother now has her 2 and will get her three. dna is a funny thing. half from the mother and half from the father, but so many people think, feel, or assume that if you breed a weak female to a strong male you will improve the quality of the pups. just my 2 cents john
