I am very sadden to report that Heinz Matzen has passed away Wednesday (9-25-13) morning at UC Davis hospital in California. Both Heinz and wife Joanne Matzen were know for their great GSD and forming the American Schutzhund Club back in the early 70's. Heinz won the first 2 north American Championships. They have been involved in dogs all their lives and when they decided to downsize their dogs in 2005 they decided to get the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno, wire hair. The Matzen's have been a big part of the foundation of the wire coat pequeno here in the US. We all should be thankful for their wonderful contributions to the breed. My heart and prayers go out to Joanne in this very stressful time in her life. For anyone wishing to send private message to Joanne her e-mail is j.heimat@gmail.com
