Love my Rainbow-a little cumbersome, but does the most awesome job and with the oils that you can put in makes everything smell good. Another trick is to buy some of the foam carpet spray stuff for pets and pet hair. Spray before you vacuum and the static electricity is neutralized allowing the vacuum to pick up the hairs.

Dyson Animal all of the way - we love ours and I'd have nothing else - it is scary to see the amount of hair & dirt the dogs carry in... -Calvin

We have always few GSD in our flat and house and we hard battle with dog hair so my father still try to find the "best vacuum cleaner". We have a collection of vacuum cleaners (Kirby, Zepter...) and my favorite is Rainbow and we also, like yellowrose of Texas do, vacuum our dogs and they queuing happy. I am interested for Dyson and if someone try to vacuum their dog with Dyson I am interested what is about smell from cleaner and indoor smell in that case? It is different if you only clean your carpet or if you vacuum your dogs with cleaner. With cleaners like Rainbow we have not got problem with smell as water filter do great job. I am not satisfy in present cleaners with HEPA filters because it is only thing of time when smell make cleaners useless even when you change filter.

The great thing about the rainbow is the availability of good smell with the oil of ur choice, or use medically with eucalyptus, or other expectorants, and then u can vacuum wet up and they last forever and ever.....water is cheap and if u store them correctly, u never need another one...parts are easy to get and they are easily worked on and the water prevents the dust and hair to fly around and fill ur house..U can take pillows and put them in a garment bag, insert the nozzle and suck the dirt and pillow down to size of a tiny purse, and remove all the grit and hair....I use the rainbow to air up matresses when company comes, too.

I have vacuumed Blitz with a Dyson, it comes with an upholstery attachment that works well for that. There is no odor because there are no bags and I just press a button and empty the cannister when I'm done with him. Dyson also comes with a deodorizing powder to sprinkle on the carpet if you want and a spray spot cleaner. I've never had a Rainbow, so it may work just as well, I don't know. The only way to be sure would be to use one and then the other on the same carpet. I like the Dyson animal for the suction, the ease of emptying it, there are no bags, and it's very easy to snap apart and clean the filter when needed. I only have one dog now, so I only need to clean the filter and cannister ever 3, 4 months and it's only a matter of hosing it off and allowing it to dry. As far as I know, there are no metal parts to a Dyson, so no need to worry over rusting if any moiture remains. Replacement parts are readily avaialable in this area or can be ordered from the Dyson website. The downside to the Dyson is it's heavy and bulky if you have to carry it up a flight of stairs and if you want to vacuum under a low lying area like a bed, you need to use one of the attachments; not a big deal, they are easy to attach. If you buy a Dyson unassembled and don't have a degree in engineering, it will take at least half an hour and lot of of 4 letter words to figure out how it all goes together. The included instructions are not great. Once it's assembled, it fits inot a small area and is easy to roll around. Another thing I really like is that it does not scrath my hardwood floors, many, many vaccum do that with their wheels. End of all you ever wanted (or not) to know about a Dyson.

Yellowrose--A friend of mine also has the Rainbow (reminds me of R2D2). She loves it. I have to say that water filter is great for eliminating dust particles---but she has one dog, a Bernise Mount. He's not allowed upstairs, where the wall to wall carpeting is prominent. The 1st level has wood floors with only one 8x10 rug. Not much hair. I can't figure where the hair goes. In the water? I'd think about getting the Rainbow to sterilize after I had previously cleaned with another vacuum. Do you deal with much hair? Price was high--over $1500--I was intrigued with the water filter. Everytime I go into Sears, I look at the Dyson. It's very big. I am going to try it out the next time I'm there. Seems to have a turbo brush for furniture. I use an Electrolux. One made before they sold their name to a Swedish company that also makes Eureka. The old Electrolux quality is now named Aerus. Mine is an upright, Epic 3500 that also has a well built, quality hose attachment. It comes with a MOTORIZED brush attachment to do furniture and my wool coats. (Lifesaving tool). The vacuum is sleek enough to go under bed and furniture. I've had this model for 12 years and it's still going strong. It cost me around $700. A likewise model would probably run around $900 or more. The only drawback is replacing the bags-$$$$$$$$$. I've been very happy with THIS particular model. Blitzin--I'm going to cover my wool coat in dog hair and try out that Dyson first chance I get. Before purchasing my present vac, I brought home the Sears's top canister model---brought it right back. Didn't like the quality at all.
